Question about medication
I'm having surgery 1-21-05 and I take pain medication on a regular basis for herniated discs and degenerative arthritis. I currently take Tylenol with codiene. Does anyone have any experience with what your doctor did with your pain meds after surgery? Have any of your doctors had you crush pills and take them in applesauce?
Thanks for your input!

Good Morning, Carolyn!
Actually, the pain medication I was given after the RNY was liquid acetominophen with codeine. So since there is a liquid out there, the doctor can easily prescribe that for you. At 6 months out, I take allergy pills the size of a horsepill, and I do fine with it, earlier I would break them in half when I swallowed them but found out that I don't need to any more now. Basically as long as there is a liquid form available, you can get that instead of the pills, just ensure it's not loaded with sugar. With there being lots of diabetics out there, the industry has adjusted many liquids to be sugar free, thank god for us RNY'ers

I take Mobic because of degenerative arthritis in my knees. I had to stop taking it because it causes ulcers in the pouchie and also thins the blood. I will not be able to take it after surgery. It has aspirin in it and I was told that was why....so I would assume that if your pain meds don't have aspirin in them you would be okay....codeine, I dunno, but it sure sounds like a good idea to me!!!
