Man to be charged in fire

MARION - A man suspected of starting a fire in a Marion apartment Saturday night remains in the Lauderdale County Jail today.
Gail Anthony, an investigator with the Marion Police Department, said the suspect will be charged with multiple felonies Tuesday after a 72-hour hold period ends at 10 a.m. She would not list the charges pending the outcome of an investigation by Marion police.
Anthony said he also is being held for questioning by the East Mississippi Drug Task Force.
She said the man allegedly entered the apartment of Brenda Carney on Calusa Road just off Old Highway 45 - less than a mile north of the four-way stop - on Saturday and doused Carney's pet parrot with kerosene.
She said the pet was not injured in the fire.
Anthony said the two know each other, but she was not sure of their relationship.
Carney was taken to a local hospital after the fire and released several hours later. Anthony said she is in good condition.
