Well, I got off my lazy duff this am and started making calls. Yesterday I talked to Daphne at UMC and they STILL don't know anything.... So yesterday I called Dr. Whitehead's office (Hattiesburg - Christine Clayton's Doc) and left a msg for Janet to call me back. She called today and they, of course, don't take Tricare...But she suggested that I talk with voc rehab as Dr. Whitehead's office is working on getting approval to use voc rehab. She was an absolute sweetheart and very concerned. Well, while I was on a roll, I googled and got the Keesler AFB Medical Center number and called them. I was routed to the general surgery clinic who let me speak to the bariatric nurse, Lisa. Talk about sweeties!!! I told her she is now the new love of my life!!! Here's the info I got....They do 1 surgery per week - taken on a most needed basis....(of course the Queen is a most needed according to herself and will gladly tell them so!!!) I asked if there was a size restriction, since I am rather pudgy (!!) and she said she would talk to the surgeon and get back to me, of course I am thinking yeah right....Well they are now doing the procedure lap band UNLESS you have too much scarring from other surgeries - and a C-section won't interfere with the lap- They have done 28 or 29 laps, but have been doing the open gastric bypass for years and years...Deaths 0, Severe complications 1 and that one was a person that bled heavily, but they got the bleeding controlled and stopped and it turned out well. Now to get on their list, all I have to do is get Dr. T, my PCP, to refer me - which is no problem EXCEPT he is on vacation until Nov 16...And after we talked, Lisa called me back (in less than 15 minutes!!!!) and said the surgeon told me to get my referral in! And she asked about co-morbidities and stuff. Also she gave me the billeting (like a military hotel on base - cheap) numbers for Keesler. So come next Tuesday, I will be calling Dr. T and having him refer me and we will see where this goes....I think I may see just a tad of light at the end of the tunnel!!!! Okay, Warriors, put your prayer hats on and go to it!!!! Smoochers & Huggers Arlies
