Cottage Cheese Test
This test is for anytime after your surgery that you have started on soft foods. DO NOT DO THIS PRIOR TO THE SOFT FOOD STAGE...
DO THIS WITHIN TWO (2) HOURS OF WAKING, BEFORE YOU EAT ANYTHING. THIS WILL COUNT AS YOUR BREAKFAST FOR THAT DAY.
1. Buy a container of SOFT, SMALL CURD cottage cheese.
2. Eat until you first feel full, but do this quickly, in 5 minutes or less.
(DISCLAIMER: THIS IS THE ONLY TIME YOU WILL BE TOLD TO EAT SOMETHING QUICKLY SO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SOFT, SMALL CURD!!!)
3. Take a 2 cup (16 ounce) measuring cup and fill it with water.
4. Pour the water into the cottage cheese container until it reaches the fullness point of where the cottage cheese was when it was first opened.
5. The amount of water displaced out of the measuring cup is the volume of your pouch. (16 oz - the remainder in the measuring cup = Pouch volume OR 2 cups - the remainder in the measuring cup = pouch volume)
IF YOU ARE EATING MORE THAN YOUR POUCH VOLUME DURING A MEAL, YOU ARE EATING TOO MUCH!!!
If you hate cottage cheese, you can add a low calorie sweetner to it or a drop of vanilla and low calorie sweetner. Do not add anything that will increase the volume or anything of any consistency ie applesauce, fruit, etc.
Also, remember, our tastes DO change after surgery and you may wind up liking cottage cheese.
Have Fun !!!
