VICKSBURG TURNED ME DOWN
This is my first time posting a message on this web site but I feel that I need to send this out to everyone in the Central MS area. River Region had scheduled me for my surgery on June 25 2004 and TODAY! (june 22) they cancelled it. Everything was fine...They kept telling me all we need is your Out of Pocket and ded. and that is it. WELL that was not it. For 2 days The Bariatric Coord. has been fighting with the hospital because they went back on their word. If I want to have the surgery on Friday I will have to have 5,000 dollars down and finance the rest.
So guess what? They lost me! Dietra faxed my information to Centeral Ms. Med Center and Adam is going to see what else i need and then set me up with a Dr. to have my surgery at CMMC.
SO ANYONE WHO IS THINKING OF RIVER REGION TO HAVE SURGERY DONT.
DR. SUDDERTH AND HIS NURSES AND DIETRA THE BARIATRIC COORD. ARE WONDERFUL PEOPLE. THEY ARE GREAT BUT THE HOSPITAL WELL I KNOW I CANT CUSS BUT THEY ARE NOT NICE!!!!!

kelli,
My name is Angela Blount and i am having the surgery also...I am seeing Dr. Blake at UMC (University Medical Center) in Jackson. They have a program that they provide for this surgery thru patient financial aid because most insurances wont pay for it. If you qualify they will pay for all or at least part of the hospital stay and testing that you need and the rest is covered by vocational rehab if you qualify and they told me that morbid obesity is considered a qualification for them to pay if your doctor says you need the surgery. I just thought I would let you know about this program...oh and if you cant get voc. rehab to pay for the Dr.'s pay....it's only 4,500 to 5,000 dollars and all you would need up front would be 1,300 for him to do the surgery and you can pay the 1,300 in installment up to the date of surgery...and the rest is set up in payments...I just wanted to let you know as a genuine courtesy. I know how frustrating it is to have these sort of thing happen...
Just thought you should know,
Thanks,
Angela Blount
I hate to sound rude, but what else is new? River Region and the bariatric doctors associated with the hospital are "bad news." I live in Vicksburg and went to Houston, TX, to have my lap band surgery - that's how bad it is here, and I couldn't find a bariatric surgeon closer than Houston that had done more than 20 lap band procedures. River Region is not a good hospital - I hate to say it, but most people in Vicksburg who care about their health go to Jackson for EVERYTHING. If I ever have to go into the hospital, unless it is a life or death emergency - I will not go to River Region, and if they take me and I am conscious, I will demand to go to Jackson or anyplace else.
When I was doing my research when I first began to think about having the surgery, I talked to different people who had gone to River Region to have the RNY procedure, and the doctor who was performing the surgery at the time (not Dr. Sudderth) - had botched so many people and some died and some were in really critical condition for a long long time. And I also heard that the reason so many people went to River Region to have their RNY surgery done is because if they went to River Region, their health insurance would pay for it - if they went somewhere else, it would not. You know people are desparate for this procedure and those that went to River Region really took a big risk and some of them didn't make it. I know they stopped the doctor from doing the procedure after awhile and then I noticed that they had brought in another bariatric surgeon - Dr. Sudderth. I know nothing about him (or her -???), but I wouldn't consider having any surgical procedure done by any doctor at that hospital. Sorry if I offended anyone associated with River Region.
