I had my consult today....

Well... Dr. Ludwig was very nice and very informative... he answered all my questions and I feel very comfortable with him. My only thing is that he hasnt done many Bariatric Surgeries... he has only done 50. He is a surgeon and has done lots of other surgeries but is just getting into the Bariatric surgery. He has had no fatalities and the only complication he had was one blood clot which was taken care of immediately. All my paperwork is being sent to insurance (faxed either friday or monday), so I will know how I stand on insurance in about a month. How would you personally feel going to a doctor that only has done 50 Lap RNYs??? Would you continue to go to him or find someone else??? Any and all inputs would be welcome. OH YEAH... I got my WLS bible... tons and tons of info on what to expect and what to eat etc. thanks everyone

I dunno...but he has done 50 with no deaths and only one blood clot....I'd say he's off to a really good start. I think I'd base it on my reaction to him in person. If I felt okay with him, I'd go with him. Good luck!! Smooch, Arlies

I dont mean to scare you but I would run like He**. If under 100 they are considered a newbie. There is not a newbie in the world I would allow to do wls on me. North MS Medical Center did about 75 before they got into serious complications on several patients and closed thier wls department. If at all possible PLEASE find one that has more experience. That is my opinion. Donna

Seems like he is qualified to do the job, had he had more people with problems other than just the blood clot, I may not would go, but he sounds like he will do what he has to do to keep you as in good of health as he can. I'm sure he must have good staff working with him or you may be hearing more out of him other than the one blood clot. Best wishes and all the good stuff that go along with it. I would go to him .
