22 yrs old and no children

I was just wondering if this surgery affects the ability to have children. I am 22 years old and have been married for almost one year. My husband and i are both going back to school. We want children, just not now. If i have this surgery, will i be able to have children in the future?

Boy, Honey did you ever come to the right place!!!The surgery dream can come true. In MS, vocational rehab, will pay for the surgery. If you can get your regular doctor to refer you to a bariatric surgeon. I am going through Dr. Roger Blake at UMC in Jackson. I have had a pulmonary study, psychiatric approval, dietician appt, and a sleep study (did that last night). According to Dr. Blake, you CAN get pregnant after WLS, but he suggests you wait until AT LEAST 1 1/2 to 2 years after surgery to give your body a chance to heal. He says it does not have an adverse effect on pregnancy. In fact, at our last support meeting, he had an ob/gyn doctor give the lecture part of the program. Also on the main board, you will find people that are currently pregnant after WLS and some who have already had their babies. If you want Dr. Blake's number, I will pass it on to you. At my first appt, he gave me paperwork to fill out for financial assistance for surgery and paperwork to fill out for vocational rehab. Thanks so much for the information. Can i call and make an appt myself or do i first have to have my dr. refer me to him? I do have a regular dr that i used when i had insurance, but now i have none so i am trying to be careful about going to the dr because i am in a tight situation right now. How is Dr. Blake? Is he a nice man? Sure give me his number if you can. I want to "get this show on the road" as soon as possible. LOL.
