Hi, Today, I just had my first consultation with my possible surgeon. I'm 5'6 289.9 lbs my BMI I believe is 45 or 46... eitherway he recommends that both Lap Band and RNY would be beneficial to me. Since i've never had children and may possibly have some in the not so near future.. he's leaning towards Lap Band. My question is has any of you had any of these surgeries and successfully lost the weight (long-term) and was able to have a complication-free healthy pregnancy? I'm not sure which surgery I want to choose due to my age and possible life span and need some advise please please help!! Also has anyone had any experience with getting an approval from Wausau Benefits?

I had the lap band on 1/29/03 and have lost 125 pounds to date. If I weren't through having kids, I'd choose the lap band. In fact, I'd choose the lap band over anything else out there! There are several banded pregnant women out there who have absolutely no complications related to the band. I believe the yahoo group is pregnantbandsters. There's absolutely NO reason why banded people should re-gain their weight because the band can be tightened at any time, and it's a very simple process. Just go into the dr's office and get a fill, and you won't be able to eat as much! This is something bypassers can't do---if bypassers start re-gaining (as I understand several do), they have no recourse but to diet. With any WLS, though, you need to understand that it is a LIFETIME change in eating habits and exercise. If you make the commitment, you'll be successful regardless of the type surgery you have. If I can answer any questions, feel free to email me. Leigh in MS
