Topic: RE: How many puncture sites for LAP RNY?
Thanks so much for your information... I found out it is related to an old open field gallbladder that I had done in 1988. The adhesions were so thick he had to address that first, the adhesions were on my small bowels, he had to cut free, revise the underneath of the scar, and had to make 5 more incisions to get the job done right, then go back and fix the hiatal hernia, then proceed with the RNY.

Wow, no wonder I hurt. I am not in a fantasy world regarding the pain, as I have had 18 previous surgeries, I just didn't realize all the things he would have to fix...before he could do it. I don't think he knew either.

You know that was an extra coffee day!

Thanks so much for your input!

Wow it didn't take me that long and he fixed a hernia at the same time. I think I had five holes. I bet he just got busy because he is great about helping you. Email them and ask. Give yourself some time to recover ,just being asleep takes its toll.

Well, I am only a week ahead of you (9/3)and i can tell I gained water weight.  I am not sure how much, but when I went in for my 1 week check up I had not lost any weight.  I am disappointed, but not devastated.  Since I do not have a scale yet I am not sure how much I lost yet, but I know my legs are still full, but my clothes feel looser.  I weigh again at the oncologist's on Friday.  that should tell me more about where I am at 2 weeks.

I have been having a kinda hard time with stage 2 foods, more vomiting, eating too fast and too large bites, but it is getting better each day so hopefully I begin losing faster as I heal.

Thanks

Hello Jan;

Have I told you lately how much I appreciate you? Well, I do and I know so do others...the day doesn't seem right If I don't see your post sometime each day. I know also it is sometimes a burden. If you need a break sometimes, take it, either ask someone to do it or just miss it for the time you need. I think we would all understand.

I am just sitting here enjoying the sound of the rain. Went in this morning for another IV Iron insusion. I get one every three months for nine months then find out how my ferritin is doing. My energy is much better since I began them.

Baby (Chihuahua) is snuggled up next to me covered up with a blanket. She thinks its winter already. LOL I keep telling her just wait girl.....I have to take the oldest granddaughter shopping for new boots after school today. She needs steel toed boots for FFA. It's always something they need with 4 of them. I love it...at least if they need something they will always come see us. LOL

Well the rain is making me sleepy so I will sign off to take a short nap before the youngest granddaughter gets home from school.

Hugs to everyone!

Email Dr. Hornbostel's wife/nurse, Margie, and she'll get back to you. He's such an excellent surgeon but he may not have had time to explain to you fully. I had 6 or 7 punctures and I lost about the same amount as you did before surgery so I don't think you are way out of line in the numbers. If you have had previous surgeries you might have had adhesions or something else that made the lap difficult. I just know that whatever Dr. H did, he did it right and to your best outcome. He really is the "gold standard" of RNY surgeons in Missouri and as Jan said many other Doctors would have just opened you up from top to bottom rather than keeping the surgery laparoscopic so that you have less of a wound to heal. By the way, how do you know how much you should hurt? I hope no one led you to believe this was a painless, easy surgery. Your innards have been rearranged and you have a new baby tummy. Just relax and take it easy on yourself and don't pu**** You'll wake up one of these days and feel much, much better and wonder why you were so worried about the discomfort.
I'll keep you in my prayers.

I would of liked a more in depth answer, such as you suggested. I did my liquid diet and lost 16 pds before surgery...  I thought your liver shrinks on the preop diet...

Thanks for your information

wracking my brain trying to think of something to start this post off with.....nope nothing. I guess when you dont do anything it is normal lol

well i see the new fall line up is at it again for me this year....they schedule  Biggest Loser and Dancing with the stars on the same night and same time.....so will only be able to record one of them darn.....Maybe i can get someone to tape one of them for me . lol dont know who tho....If Andy and Susan were here they would do it for me .

looks like it is going to rain again. i guess from the new hurricane that is coming into the gulf.....seems like it is early for them this year isnt it? was thinking hurricane season was later in the year. will have to ask George , in Houston that is a big party weekend....the start of Hurrican season lol weird what  some people will celebrate isnt it....just so they have a reason to get drunk i guess.

time of the year that we start touching up all the little things to our house.....usually paint again or at least touch up in the late fall or at least before Christmas....Joe still has some small things in here that he has never done....like he got the baseboards down in the bedroom but not the quarter rounds ....and there is one section of the wall behind the bed that he didnt even paint the baseboard lol lazy man....well this year it is all going to get done. tired of looking at it.

as you can see there is not a lot of content here...and have to go to work today so need to go do laundry and see if there is something for the guys for supper. so will talk to you all later.

Jo , thinking of Max and his surgery to implant the wire in his back ....i hope the real thing helps him as much as the trial run did. ....will be quite a blessing if it does....and he isnt having to take lots of pain meds. ..will be better for him too.

love you all.
