What do you have to do to get this surgery?

I have been researching this for over a year and due to my comorbidities-diabetes, sleep apnea, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, etc. I feel that this would improve my life greatly, but insurance won't pay. I had decided to try self-pay but have been told that I can't because of the insurance coverage that I have. I have BCBS of KC-Blue Advantage through my husband's school and just acquired Medicare Part A & B due to disability. Is there anyone else out there who has been told that they can't self-pay? My husband wants to take out a loan to cover the surgery.

medicare will pay for it you know you just have to find a facality that has a Certificate of Excellence. I am in the process of getting surgery done at Sedalia Mo. They have applied for and will soon have their COE. You will need to go to a meeting at sedalia and listen to Dr. Hornbostel then go from there. They have a web site too. But he is listed here on the Bariatric surgeons on the left hand side of the page here. If I can be any other help let me know. Jan

also dont see what business it is of theirs if you want to pay cash for it anyway. But why spend the money when you can get medicare to pay for it. It just may take a month or two to get all things together. Jan

Dear Jan, My husband and I went to the seminar in Sedalia this evening and were very impressed! I have just finished my patient profile on the internet and have my other info ready to mail in the morning. I believe that my angels are watching over me as I go through this process. Thank you again for all your encouragement. Sincerely, Karen S.

Dear Jan, You're truly an angel. Just when I was feeling so defeated--a glimmer of hope. Wouldn't you know that there is an Obesity Surgery Seminar tomorrow evening in Sedalia. I told my husband when he got home from work today and he is almost as excited as I am. We will be there tomorrow with bells on. Thanks again. Sincerely, Karen S.
