Think this may be too much?
I'm just about 1 1/2 seeks out. Surgery on 3/20.
Yesterday I actually had a protein (solid food) at all three meals.
Is that too early? I had a medium egg scrambled (very wet.) And refried beans about 3 teaspoons watered down and nuked for lunch and dinner.
I am leaving just a little on my plate each meal just to get into the habit of not caring about food.
What are you're opinions?
Jennifer,
I Had my surgery in November and my doctors process was no food only protein drinks and other liquids for almost the first 3 weeks. Then we got to add cottage cheese and other soft foods. Then each week later we got to add a couple new foods. I think week 4 i got to add deli meat and apples with no peel. The main reason they told me that they wanted me to do that was because i could probably tolerate the food but this way it gave my stomach and instine time to actually heal. Hope this is of some help but the big question is what did your doctor tell you to do? Hope things are going well with you. Have a great day.
Steph
Jennifer,
Did your surgeon give you a program to follow? The information would list the intervals that he/she want you to eat certain foods and when to progress to more solid, dense foods. Make sure to either follow that program or, in the alternative, call your surgeon's office to get their recommendations.
One thing that is common though with bariatric programs is to make sure you keep and stay hydrated. Make sure you're drinking your water regularly.
I agree with Steph that at this early stage post-operatively, protein drinks are a safe choice until you determine your surgeon's protocol regarding your dietary progression. At 1-1/2 weeks post-op, protein drinks will give you the most nutrition bang for your dietary intake.
Let us know how it goes.

Yes my directions are to start solid food adding this week. eat slowly chew well and only protein for a month. Next month we add in veggies.
Our list is
eggs
refried beans
cottage cheese
string cheese
chicken (chewed well and very moist)
turkey (same as above)
tuna (the food from the devil according to Wayne!
string cheese
tofu
they say try one at a time but don't really give a time frame for eating for eating one at each meal. SO I'm just going with my gut. hahahahaha
Its really funny how each doctor's orders are slightly different but they get similar results.
But thanks for all the info.
Jennifer...
Just follow what YOUR dr. wants you to do. There are so many different protocols out there, some of them very liberal and some very restrictive. So you would venture to get many different opinions for sure!
One thing that I WOULD definitely do is to proceed slowly. When you introduce a new food try not to do too much at one time...and see how your body is going to handle processing it.
Sounds like you are doing a wonderful job kiddo... good job of getting in protein... don't forget to stay hydrated as well!...
