Dr. Ellison?
I posted below, but now have a little more info. I think that this doctor works where Dr. Lopez used to work, right. I know there has been a lot of controversy about what used to be Midwest Bariatric institute and is now the surgical weight loss center. I'm not sure what to tell my friend because the "center" is telling her she cannot switch to another doctor or she will be charged 750 dollars. Help, I'm not sure what to tell her. She really needs the surgery. Thanks for any info.

I'm sorry i don't know who Dr. Ellison is.
I know about 3 doctors in the KC area that do WLS but he is not one of them.
I don't understand about the not switching docs. Does that mean within their group? I wan't allowed to request a different dr. when I was persuing surgery in Topeka, KS but that was office policy. I would have been able to request up front but I didn't know that. I was uncomfortable with this surgeon and I left their office. I was not charged at all because my insurance picked up the consult charge.
I persued surgery with Dr. Hoehn at Shawnee Mission Medical Center in KS. I had surgery last Monday and I feel great.
If this hospital or clinic has a bad reputation then I would really look into other places. Health can't have a price tag on it.
