RNY on 03/14/06 with
hello everyone, just wanted to tell everyone that i am alive and well. i am still in mexico, flying home tomorrow (yeah!). i had my lap rny on march 14, without any complications. i was npo (nothing by mouth)for four days post op (this doctor is seriously conservative)and after passing the blue dye test, was allowed water and diluted juice and sf jello on the 4th day postop. i was on clear liquids for 5-6 days and now am on full liquids for two weeks. i am having a lot of trouble finding things down here that i can eat. i went to outback steakhouse and had cream of potato soup (didn't eat the potato chunks) and within 5 minutes, dumped on it! the next day, i tried campbells cream of chicken soup and dumped on it. they don't have any light or reduced fat cream soups down here, so i'll look for some at home. i'm not sure what other doctors allow in this period. i'd love some feed back on what other doctors are doing. my dr. (dr. joya in puerto vallarta prides himself on having better mortality rates than the national average and he admits that he gets these in part by being much stricter than other doctors in the US). i'm just a little worried about finding something that i can eat besides clear liquids. i went to the healthy weight supermarket before i came down and stocked up on a lot of clear liquid protein drinks, so i think i´m keeping my head above water on the protein. i feel great. the first day out of the hospital, i went downtown and went on a 3 hr. shopping trip and every day have done something like that. i've been starting my days with lying on the beach and sunbathing for 2-3 hours and have a pretty decent tan! i don't know how much (if any) weight i have lost as the doctor doesn't want me to check it until i get home. he says weight loss the first two weeks is marginal and he doesnt want me to get discouraged. i'll weigh as soon as i get home and up date everyone. i have lots to say about surgery in mexico, and i'll let you guys know about it if anyone is interested. i am so homesick, i miss my husband and kids dearly and can't wait to come to support group! this message will likely say that it's from stephanie parkhurst as she used this computer at the internet cafe last and i can't get it to let me change users, but it's from me, (victoria kelsay). see you all soon! Glad to hear from you and that things are going well.....hope you can find better choices here in the US. It's not saying much because I can't find things that I can easily eat (I am 6 weeks out).......thanks for writing..keep in touch.

Victoria, I am SO GLAD to hear from you! I've been thinking about you and waiting to get a post from you. I would love to hear your thoughts on the center in Mexico as I am very familiar with the doctors, their center and process. As a patient though and going through their entire process, I am anxious to hear your experience. I would love to read about your experience. Did your surgeon give you his protocol on what to eat? You need to watch the thick, creamy soups even with a lap band. Let me know if you have any materials from your surgeon on what to eat. Make sure you are staying hydrated. You're able to tolerate your water and vitamins??? Congratulations on your surgery and doing so awesome. Although I knew you'd do very well. I look forward to walking down your new healthy lifestyle path with you on the Board. Please post when you get home. Take care, Cathy ObesityHelp Support Group Specialist
