Ok I have United Health Care Choice HMO...called them four times to ask different questions, and each time I asked to make sure the surgery was covered...TWICE I was told, "yes it covered 100%" and twice I was told that it didn't cover it at all.....I"m on an emotional roller coster...not knowing if I should go and spend the money for my consultation or not due to the fact that I don't want to throw away $150....Anyone use UHC Choice HMO? but of course I'm sure the provisions are completely different on each plan I'm so depressed right now, I was looking forward to getting this done and having a normal life...... Check with your hr on your policy to see if wls is excluded. Some policies do have an exclusion. When you call UHC ask to speak to a supervisor and have a letter sent to you telling you if they will cover wls. UHC is usually very good unless the policy has an exclusion. My wife and I had UHC ppo and they were very good at covering wls but sometimes the people in customer service are lazy or dumb and dont give you correct information. If you ask to talk to a supervisor you will get farther and get better answers. UHC lost all my initla paperwork with my surgeon and it had to be resubmitted. They did pay good when the bills came which is what counted to me. My wife had her surgery six months later and had no problems at all.

I had United Health Care choice plus POS plan 072. It excluded the surgical and nonsurgical treatment of obesity including morbid obesity, however each plan is different. A lot of people with UHC have no problems getting the surgery covered. It all depends on your benefits coverage booklet. If you don't have yours, go to your HR department they should have them on hand. Go straight to the exclusions and check to see if surgical treatment is excluded or if it just says must be medically neccessary. An exclusion will be hard if not impossible to overcome. Good luck and keep us posted please. Dannielle

I have United Healthcare and I also got the run-around. I went through New Start and let them deal with UHC. They contacted the insurance and found out whether or not it would cover it prior to me going through any additional procedures. Perhaps whatever doctor you are working with can do that. Unless of course you know for sure that your human resources department knows what they are taliking about. Did they show you in black and white where it says they will not cover WLS?
