Well I go for my first consultation on Wednesday...nervous and excited! I have the support of most of my friends and my boyfriend...but my parents on the other hand....different story....I'm 29, so it's not like I need their approval...I'm a single mom of a six year old little girl...they think I'm being crazy...not thinking of her, the financial aspects, all of that...my insurance said they cover 100% I know I'll have out of pocket expenses but I have money in savings and my dear BF is willing to help. My parents are both overweight and in fact most of my family is overweight...and I'm just tired of being that way....so wish me luck, say a little prayer, and I"ll let you all know how the consultation went

Carrie Good luck with your first consultation. It is good that you have some support. And I read the part where you said your 29 and you really dont need their approval. I understand I am 36 and feel the same way BUT, beings I am their daughter (flesh & blood). I would think they would show me their support weather they approved or not. And maybe that whats you need to set down and talk with them about. Alot of time when we dont get our parents approval or support. Is cause they are being parents and watching out for us. Or maybe they dont understand enough about the surgery. To understand that sometimes you are greater health risk if you dont do something to lose weight then you are for doing something to lose weight. Try sitten down with them and watching on the discovery channel a show that shows the before and after of someone that has had WLS. And how they now have a new leash on life. Maybe that will help them understand how importain it really is for us out here. I hope my words encourge you and you have a postive consultation. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. God Bless Melissa

Hello, I am also 29 although I don't need my parents' approval but I am very close to them. It took awhile for my mom to get on board and she is still very worried about it but she's very supportive. I have not yet told my father, I know it will be a war. I cannot decide whether to tell him or not and time is running out 11 days until surgery. My husband is a great support, a wonderful man, couldn't ask for a better partner. Congrats on getting this far and I wish you all the success and support!
