Having a hard time.....

Today was my first day on soft solids and I couldn't take advantage because all day I felt crappy and gagged non stop for no reason. I attempted some applesauce swallowing it gagged me so I went back to popsicles. Please tell me this gagging thing gets better! I feel so blah all the time, I can not swallow my crushed medicine and vitamins because I throw them up. Everything seems to make me want to hurl. I know I am not getting in the protein or vitamins that I need and I can not figure out how to get past the gagging/puking so that I can do what I am supposed to be doing. I feel like I am failing at this. I have lost 27lbs. in two weeks which I love, but do not want to deprive my body of the vitamins and protein it needs. Any suggestions?

Angela, Call Dr.De La Torre's office and talk to the nurse. They may want you to come in. His office is your best source of help. They will be happy to talk to you and help you out. Linda

Angela, I'm with Linda..........call your surgeon's office tomorrow morning first thing. Was applesauce your first attempt at soft food? Did you eat anything before the applesauce? Were the popsicles soothing and you were able to consume those? Make sure to stay hydrated by drinking your water. Are you able to tolerate water? Your doctor definitely needs to be contacted if you are not able to swallow your crushed medication. Are you on chewables or liquid vitamins? Please let us know what your surgeon says after you contact them tomorrow? Whatever it is, it will be okay. You absolutely aren't failing! This is part of the post-op, healing process. You are being compliant with your surgeon's program which is obvious because you are concerned already about your protein and vitamins. This is a bump in your healthy lifestyle path. This isn't anything you are/aren't doing right or wrong. You have a great surgeon with a good, solid program so you are under good care. Try not to worry because whatever it is, it will be okay under your physician's care and with your obvious commitment to this process. You'll move forward and add to those 27 pounds and get stronger and healthier. Let us know as soon as you know something, okay? Take care, Cathy ObesityHelp Support Group Specialist

Thanks for checking on me! I called Dr. de la Torre's office and talked to Kathy who said that I need to be taking my B12 by injections or sublingual which I have been crushing, so I am going to do the injections. She said to get the B1 in liquid form so I am going to go fill that today. She said the rest of my meds are small enough that I can take them normally instead of crushing. Thank God because I was dreading taking them each day. She said the gagging can be normal but she wants to check and see if they want to see me since I am doing it so often and for no reason. She is going to call me back soon. I will keep you posted. Thanks again for checking on me!
