I am new to this site and I have 6 mons of supervised dieting by Doctor to go before I have the surgery. I have Cigna PPO Insurance, has anyone had any problems with this Co? I also was wondering if anyone has had their surgery done by Dr. Gorospe in Tulsa,OK? How is he has a Doctor (u all know what I mean)? He is the only Bariatric surgeon my Doc recommends. My Doc is all for the surgery. Thats good. Well let me know Thanks Michelle

I had unitedhealthcare when I had my wls. We have cigna now and I have heard they are not too good so just be sure you have all your ducks in a row to give they everything they want. There are doc in Missouri doing surgery closer for you. I never heard of this doc but you might go on the oklahoma state board and look him up to she what his patients say about him. We are having a weight loss surgery support group in Springfiled tonight at 5 3.0pm if you want to come. It is open to everyone you will meet lost of nice folks. Some are pre op and some are post ops. I would make sure whatever doc you use in is your cigna ppo or they will use that as an excuse to not pay. Have a back up plan. I had two docs lined up as I had troubel getting approval from the first doc I saw. I ended up having wls with my second choice in Batesville Arkansas , but he was a very good surgeon. You can look up on obesity help what people say about cigna too.

Michelle, Ditto for me to what David told you. ObesityHelp is a great resource for checking what patients post about their physician and also Cigna. You might also try to contact patients directly of the doctor to get their feedback. The support group David referred to is the New Beginnings Support Group in Springfield, MO. We meet at the St. John's Surgery Center, Classroom 4B, 1229 E. Seminole. We meet from 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Our regular meetings are the second Monday of every month. Our speaker tonight is Carmen Boyd, RD, LPC. Carmen will be discussing "Food and Mood". If you come to the meeting tonight, you can ask the group if anyone has had surgery with this doctor or for any referrals. It is a wonderful group. I hope to see you tonight. Michelle, Yes, I have heard of Dr. Gorospe....there are at least 8 ladies that I work with that had LAP RNY'S and all have great things to say about this surgeon and, nothing negative. Also, one lady had Cigna insurance through her husband, and had to jump through a couple hoops to get her WLS approved. Please email me if you need more information and I'll see if I can help you. Good luck to you!! -Kelli

My best friend had LAP RYN with Dr. Gorospe and she has praised him ever since. She is about 2 years post op. He has a huge amount of experience doing this surgery and a far below national average death rate. He does about 16 per week . I went for a consultation and if I ever get my surgery I would only use him. I'm waiting for either my job to change insurance companies/plans or for senate bill 597 to be passed. Dr .Gorospe's nurses are excellent at handling the insurance companies. Talk to them if you have questions -they are great. The one thing about the medically supervised diet is that it needs to be well documented by your doctor with at least once a month visits. The more details the better. From what Dr.Gorospe's nurse told me -the insurance company isn't looking for you to lose weight they just want to weed out those who aren't serious and see that you can follow a plan.(I had the 6month diet requirement and started it then my job switched insurance companies to a plan with an exclusion for treatment of obesity /morbid obesity of any kind.) Call your assigned nurse at Gorospe's office-they are really awesome and helpful. Dannielle
