Surgery denied

I am beside myself here. I just received a call from my heath insurance that I have been denied for surgery. I called a year ago and they told me I needed a letter from my doctor and all would be fine now it has been denied. I know I can appeal but this has become so frustrating for me. I need hip surgery and the doctor's won't do that prior to losing weight. It is so disheartening for me to go through this. Thanks for listening, it is nice to have a place to talk to people who have been through this before. Rose H.

I am so sorry that you have gone through this with your insurance. Did they give you any reason this time why it was denied? What insurance do you have? Hang in there and don't give up. God bless and have a good evening. Penni

Hi Rose, Don't give up! That is exactly what the insurance is hoping you'll do. Ask what they need, and provide that. But keep on trying. Call several times to check on the status too. Bug them all you can. Elaine (I'm in St. Charles Co too)

Rose.. I'm sorry that you got the denial. Especially so since you were kind of given the hope that "it" was a given for approval. With all that said, dust yourself off and gird those loins my dear. Anything WORTH winning is worth fighting for! I lost track of all the denials I got over the years but I never gave up (even though I wanted to at times).. and in the end run I won approval. It wasn't easy and I wouldn't wish what I had to go through on even my worst enemy. But I can tell you that it serves as my motivation to keep me on the straight and narrow I'm telling you!... FOR ME... having to work like hell to get this surgery and pay through the nose as well...makes me APPRECIATE it all the more and I am sooooooo dead set on not screwing things up after all I went through to have WLS in the first place. I'm sure that is one reason that I am so close to goal and I have lost 160 lbs. in 16 months. I have less than 15 lbs. to goal and I can see the end in sight!... Anytime that I am tempted to eat something that isn't the best of choices I think back on what I went through to have my surgery. It gives me clarity to the nth degree!... Find out exactly what the wording of the denial is... and go from there.. Let us know if we can help you out!.. Best of wishes... Elizabeth~

Thank you very much for writing. I received a call from the surgeon's office after I posted the first statement and was told how to contact the person *****jects or accepts the surgery himself! I have many letter's to have written from orthropedic doctors as well as primary and first thing tomorrow have a list to compete. Thanks for the encouragement I was really sad at first now I have work to do. I am only 53 and shouldn't have to live like this and won't!! Thanks again, Rose H.

Rose, That is the way to think!! Whatever you do DON'T GIVE UP!!! I know it can be discouraging at times, I was denied too but I kept after the insurance company and finally the approved me. I had my surgery Feb.9th, 2005. I know you can do this, and you are in my prayers. Darla
