Tracey When is your surgery sweetie?? Hopefully it wont as long as you ate it early enough. I know how the liquid diet goes. It is not on my most favorite list right now. lol Melissa

I dont know your surgeons protocols but four mcnuggest should not hurt you. My surgeon just did not want us to gain any weight as he wanted your liver to shrink to make a safer surgery. After your surgery the liquide diet will fill you up. I know now it must be hard. I ate whatever I wanted to as a pre op I just did not go on a big binge. Do whatever your surgeon tells you to do all surgeons have different rules and protocols. I never heard of being on a liquid diet for a while but you probably will have an easier surgery.

I hope you came through it OK, but for anyone *****ads this post in the future. . . DO NOT EAT WHEN THE SURGEON TELLS YOU NOT TO EAT!!!!! You are putting your own life at risk and making the surgeon's job so much harder, sometimes impossible. My surgeon's assistant told me that the surgeon had a surgery where he cut into someone's stomach who had eaten the day before. The food gushed out of the stomach and into the person's abdominal cavity. The surgeon then had to clean up all that mess (which was life threatening to the patient) and sewed the person right back up, with no gastric bypass. I know we are supposed to be supportive and touchy-feely on this board, but let me tell you, that person got exactly what he/she deserved -- no surgery. Pre-op, I did a seven day liquid diet, no food, only water (no soda, no tea), crystal lite lemonade, sugar free jell-o, and sugar free popsicles. I weighed 450 pounds before surgery so obviously, I could chow down on some food, but I figured it was a very small sacrifice to go without food for 7 days so that (a) the surgeon could do the best job possible on me, (b) I could make his job as smooth as possible and thus make for a less risky surgical procedure, and (c) I could gain confidence about my ability to control my path through this journey. In addition to making the digestive tract clear for the surgery, the pre-operative fast also shrinks your liver, which somewhat overlays your stomach. If the liver is smaller, it makes the surgeon's job easier (he/she doesn't have to fight/work around your liver as much to get to your digestive tract). This also makes for a less risky surgery. I know this will probably offend some people, but I am shocked and amazed that anyone would eat something the day before surgery that was not prescribed in the surgeon's pre-operative fast. Yes, it's a pain in the rear to do the fast, but I asked myself this question many times as I managed through the hunger those days -- is a little food worth ruining your chance at a new life? Good luck to all. - Beth
