I am suppose to get 1200 calories a day. I am only avg. 600 and then when I excersize I always loose about 150 calories. My question is am I o.k. only getting that many calories a day. I was just asking. Thanks, Penni

You need to get your calories in or your body could go into starvation mode and you wont lose any weight and can have serious health problems. We can become malnourished.. A woman at the support group meeting in Springfield is in starvation mode. You can get very sick and do permanent damage to yourself. You should be getting 60-80 grams of protien a day at a minimum and more would not hurt. Maybe try adding a few healthy carbs like fruit, low carb bread, or high protien pasta.

You're still a fairly new post-op, so I wouldn't sweat it. I didn't get up to 1200 calories until about six months. My dietician said that it takes about six months for your body to enter the starvation mode. If you feel tired and run-down or you stop losing, then you should definitely talk to your dietician. Otherwise, you're just fine. Of course, as I say that...if I was only getting 600 calories a day for six months AND I exercised, I should have lost more than 75 lbs. Darned metabolism! ANYWAY...we're all different, but I wouldn't worry too much unless you really feel off-kilter. Cheers! Pamela 352/222/150ish Pamela
