I'm scheduling my surgery!!! Mexico here I come!
Well, for all of you I have bugged during my quest for surgery...I have a date!!!! I am paying my deposit this week and scheduling my surgery for March 20 in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. I'm taking two of my critical care nurse friends with me. My total surgery package, for RNY is $12,500!! It's going to cost me about $1500 more to take my friends, but is well worth it. I'll be there for 11 days and will recooperate on the beach! I am very excited!
I'm spent a lot of time checking into a lot of different doctors. I have researched and contacted former patients of several Mexican physicians and have found three that come VERY highly recommended and have a lot of experience. If anyone out there is having trouble financing this in the states (like I did), all indications are that these doctors are a very good option. The doctor who is performing my surgery has actually done almost twice as many lap RNY surgeries as the other two local doctors that I was looking at.
I am excited and nervous at the same time! I can't wait to start my journey!

Good luck, Victoria! I know several people who have gone to Mexico (for the DS) and they were very happy with the care and the experience. Being excited and nervous is totally normal at this point!
Hang in there. It may seem like forever, but one day soon you'll look at the calendar and think, "Oh no, it's HERE!"

Victoria - you are brave and dedicated. I know that your surgery is going to be a wonderful thing. I admit I am envious of laying on the beach for a recovery.....you can have ice water, protein shakes with those little umbrellas. I guess being surrounded by bikinis is a great motivator....good luck, write and tell us how it goes. There used to be a bar in PV called the City Dump - lots of fun. Dance on the tables at Carlos O'briens the night before - everyone else does.....
Good Luck. Don't eat anything from the street right before surgery (even a few days). Just a passing thought.
