Soooo, weepy
I am having such ups and down. First I am weepy and then I am happy. Girls, I was wondering if any of your hormones has been messed up from this surgery. Now I have bipolar and it is not that (I don't think). Its just hard because I know I am not getting enough protien but it is all so expensive. Elizabeth mentioned Sweet Freedom smoothies and yogurt. I got some and I just couldn't handle to taste. Everything is so expensive! I know I need to get the protien in but sometimes I think it is so impossible to get all of it in. I am eating more but not enough to fill the need for protien. One question---I looked at the South Beach dinners at wal-mart but the carbs are so high in it. It had protien but I thought we were suppose to avoid carbs if we could. I wanted to get a few of them but I was leary of the carbs. Well, enough of going on and on. Thanks for listening, Penni
This is the protien I use http://www24.netrition.com/now_whey_protein_isolate_page.html
It is unflavored so you can use your own flavorings (frozen fruit, coffee, crystal lite, yogurt, sugar free coffee flavorings, etc...) The 5lb bucket lasts for about 40 days using 2 shakes a day. You can order the small bucket to test it. Hope this helps a little with the protien.

Why dont you get some samples. Most of these companies will send you free samples of protien shakes and bars and you also order so samples pretty cheaply. Susan Maries sight is good as are several others like unijury and nectar. some are fruit flavored, you will surely find somthing you like. Hormones bounding around happen to all of us post op, even us men. I got tons of free samples this last week. Look on the main board to find more information. I also ordered some beef jerky that is real thin and like potatoe chips but it is all protien. Pork rinds also are crispy and have protien and are allowed. The power krunch bars are great and the south beach meal replacement bars have 20 grams of protien and are very good not too many carbs. GET YOUR PROTIEN IN ANY WAY YOU CAN IT IS VITAL OR YOU COULD HARM YOURSELF PERMANENTLY.
Penni,
Just got home from work so thought I would post.I had one Atkins protein bar yesterday(20 grams) and ate the rest protein. Home made bean soup, cottage cheese, milk, soy nuts and came out with 54 grams. I think I will have to try some of non flavored that I can mix in like Waynes. Hope this finds you well. Colette
P /dr. H said we can have around 50 carbs. I eat peanut butter on non fat saltines also. great source of protein
Penni,
I don't drink protein drinks anymore at all...I try my best to eat high protein foods. I just can't hack the taste of most of the high protein drinks and such. But, I know that I have to have protein in my diet. Yeah, I try to avoid high carb intake foods as well and I know what you're talking about there.
I love tuna...and eggs and at least 2x a week I put an egg in tuna salad and either eat it with a spoon or on crackers. I pile up the crackers so I don't eat as many....anyway this is a high source of protein. Cheese and cottage cheese are both very high in protein and I love to add fruit to my cottage cheese for a treat...yummy! I have some protein powder that I use sometimes. Try and remember to eat your protein 1st with your meals. Yeah, everything costs a lot of money...this is why I mainly eat whatever I have at home.
Hope this helps a little,
Kelli
Oh honey, could I tell you stories about the weepies! The surgery definitely screws up your hormones big time! I cried alot for no reason. This will go away in time.
You are looking soooo fantastic! It is hard to get the protein in. I ate a lot of tuna and cottage cheese for a while, as well as protein shakes.
Keep up the good work!

Penni...
I pour the Blue Bunny Yogurt smoothies over crushed ice... they taste so good that way. Slightly chilled or room temp doesn't set well with me at all!....
Also cottage cheese, refried beans (sprinkle some cheese and melt it!), make a very very smooth tuna salad or egg salad... string cheese IF you chew it well, scrambled eggs w/cheese, and I know I'm weird...
but I love spinach! I zap a can of old Popeye in the microwave and splash some cider vinegar on it. Low calorie, sodium isn't too bad and it has protein too!...
Btw here is something that might help you folks... I "borrowed" this from my BIL's support group when queried about nutritional requirements for postops. Mind you ...you should always ask your dr. but I have been following their program (since my surgeon doesn't HAVE ONE..*grrrrrrr*) from the git go and I am doing fine... now with that disclaimer mentioned here it is...
Calories 1000-1200 per day, Fat 33 grams per day, Carbs 75 grams per day, Protein 75 grams per day.
Folks you HAVE to eat some carbs. It is fuel and your brain needs them too to function. You cut em' out too much and you are walking around in a brain fog... can't think straight. Hope this helps!
Elizabeth~
