Weight loss b4 surgery
So, Feb 9th is my surgery date. I teeter on the edge of a BMI of 60. That is critical for lap versus open. Anyone out there got some encouragement for the old diet plan during the next few weeks....staying on get results (but oh so slowly).....No quick results, feeling hungry, all the old diet traps..... I could sure use to hear how good it's going to be AFTER surgery.......
I would be glad to wish you well,...I am having surgery just 2 days before you,...I live in Sedalia, and going to Omaha to have my surgery. I am really excited now that it's January, I have a B-day on the 17th and then I get to have another one when I have my surgery. I didn't see who was doing your surgery. I am using Dr. Anthone because I am getting the DS. I hope that you had a good Chrismas and I wish you all the best with the coming new year and your WLS journey.

I hate to say this, but even after surgery I always felt hungry. Head hunger mostly I'm sure, but still the same, how do you determine how true hunger feels after a lifetime of eating to satisfy that hunger whether it is head hunger or true hunger? My mom, dad, hubby, and my best friend were all at the hospital for my surgery and they told me that when I came out of recovery the first thing I said was "I'm hungry" I dont remember saying that, but I guess they wouldnt lie to me lol. Just remember that when you are hungry sip water, eat a sf popsicle, or sf jello and that will satisfy, usually. Hope that helps you for the post op days. As for the pre-op days, all I can advise is to drink lots of fluid (water, milk, etc) to keep your belly full without eating as much. Eat HUGE salads so you feel full but it is mostly water. I dont remember what my bmi was before my lap rny, but I do know that I weighed about 390 and am only 5'4", that was about what I weighed before the surgery. My highest weight was 411.
When I was told to lose weight before surgery, I thought all was lost. I cried and ended up eating more because I was so heart broken. But when I found my groove, about 3 months later, I was able to take off about 24 lbs or so and that satisfied the doc and surgery was scheduled. My groove was Propolene and salads. I ate so many salads that now I cant hardly stand them anymore. But it worked. Even though I have lost about 110 lbs in just under 7 months, I still struggle everyday with the hunger issues and I probably always will. However, every BODY is different and you may not have that problem. Hope this helps you and if not, thanks for listening anyways lol

Oh! Darlene I'm really sorry you feel hungry, I worry about that too. I told the doc that I am always hungry and never know what it feels like to feel full and he says that will change when I have my surgery. I sure hope he is rightl. I am a diabetic also and if I don't eat I start feeling funny, and I wasn't sure just how to explain this to my therapist,... but I eat most of the time to make me feel better. Clamy sweats, dizzyness, blurry vision,...tummy aching with sharp pains and runny stools. I over eat when I feel this way and I do the same thing when I am emotionally up set about something. Then there are times I can eat a sandwich and then an hour or so later eating again,..I see a therapist bi weekly and we are working on my issues,..with her husband being sick and the holidays they have been a lot less lately. Theres my tummy roaring now. And I am not hungry!!!! Well I am going to bed and wish you all the best.

Just try to stay away from carbs and pile on the protien. South Beach or Atkins. The good thing is you can eat plenty of protien so you get full and you will lose a little weight. Maybe try some protien bars or shakes. The South Beach meal replacement bars are great and have 19 grams of protien. You do need to lose a little so your live shrinks, which makes your surgery safer. The protien will keep you full protien stays in your tummy a long time and does satisfy very well.
