Well, I am back at square one looking for a doctor I can afford here in the states. My husband has temporarily veto'ed the going to Mexico thing. I need to have RNY and only have $14000 at this point. A while back, someone said that they thought this doctor (Hornbostel) would work with you on some part of the cost. Anyone know anything about this guy or the hospital he works with, cost, financing, etc.? Thanks, victoria

I saw Dr Hornbostel at first but the hospital he works with is goofy. They would not file papers correctly and would not approve my insurance there. I had unitedhealthcare then which is very favorable to wls. I ended up having my surgery in Batesville, Arkansas with Dr Lambert. I did very well and my wife had surgery 6 months after me and did well too. Some of the hospitals in Arkansas do surgery for a flat fee. I know some people who had theirs done in Batesvill for a flat 20,000 including all tests, surgery and hospital stay. Some hospitals in Little Rock do it fairly cheaply too. Some of them might work out payments for you. Some other people have morgaged their homes or borrowed the money to have their wls. DO WHATEVER YOU HAVE TO DO TO GET YOUR SURGERY. The road is not easy but the rewards will be worth it. I am so much better now that I am not morbidly obeses anymore. I had to fight the insurance company because they lost all the paperwork I submitted to Doc Lambert. I resubmitted it and fought and they approved the surgery and paid very well. DONT GET DISCOURGAGED DONT GIVE UP EVER. Good Luck. I think Dr Hornbostel is a good surgeon but the hospital he works with is not so great.

I had surgery 12/2 w/Dr. Hornbostel @ Bothwell Hospital. I've rec'd the bills from both the doctor and the hospital. The hospital has charged right at $16000 and doc charged (my insurance) $6000. The doctors office staff and the doctor himself are all wonderful people! They all really do care you! Good luck ~Stacey

I thought Dr. Hornbostel was only charging $3800 for his services, that was the quote he gave last April,... has he went up that much??? Sorry I can't believe he is charging that much! God Bless all and Happy New Year Marylin99

I kinda thought the amount was way high.. I'm not sure if that's just what they "bill" the insurance? In all the paperwork we rec'd before surgery said that his part of the bill would be around $3500. I'm so thankful to have insurance! ~Stacey

I had united health care when I had surgery with Dr Hornbostel in 2002. It's not him. Bothwell Regional Hospital does not take United Healthcare anymore for gastric bypass and is seriously thinking about not taking UHC for ANYTHING. The hospital and UHC are in a dispute over what UHC pays.
