I am planning my trip to Mexico for RNY surgery, I'm going to Monterrey and am curious what to take. What is the diet like the first week-week and a half? I'm figuring clear liquids, do I need to take protein jello, soups, broth, etc? Somone told me to be sure to take lip balm for that period when you can't have anything to eat or drink. Any other tips would be great.

Hey Victoria, I think that every surgeon has their own rules for having WLS and they will tell you what you need to eat/drink after your surgery. Your going so far away for your surgery is going to be tricky and I know you need to know what to have on hand and at home when you have your surgery. Find you a good tasting clear chicken or beef broth and try and find a protein drink that you like....find them now rather than later! Sugar free popcicles saved my life and also I drank a lot of chrystal light...there are many flavors and I think at 1st all are okay except for the tea flavor. My surgeon didn't want me to drink a lot of stuff with caffiene. At 1st you really will be drinking liquids and 3-4 protein shakes eveyday. Lip balm is a MUST! I took a small fan...and I used it...I just like air blowing on me...and my surgery was in August...so it was stuffy in there! I packed tons of stuff but, honestly I didn't use 90% of it...didn't read the magazines, didn't use my robe or gowns...just wore what they gave me. Hope this helps a little, Kelli

Not really sure what to tell you since my surgery is this Thursday but I have read a lot of times that you don't need anything but a fan and chapstick. Good luck on you surgery and keep us posted on your journey. Wayne

Baby powder was my friend. My stomach was so sticky from the betadine and the powder was very soothing. You really won't need much. I took things I didn't use either. I wore a gown and sweat pants home. Lip balm for sure. Good luck to you and God bless. Barb
