3 Days Post Op
Hey out there! I need help. I had my surgery on Friday. Once I finally woke up, I've been okay... they had some real difficulty waking me up! 5 hours in Recovery... Anyway. Since then I've been feeling great, other than the pain in my neck and shoulders and a VERY little pain in my tummy. My problem is... I'm hungry. I know that I need to really think about behavior modification... and know that I'm drinking everything I'm supposed to be. I checked my blood sugar this morning... 84! Thank you! I've been off almost all my meds for a week now. I just don't know how to know if it's right for my body to add something w/more substance. I don't want to get sick... I'm just am hungry... Any suggestions! Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers! I'm hoping to be on the losing side w/most of you very soon! ~Stacey
Most of my hunger was just head hunger.Did your Ddr give you a list of food you can have?If so just go by that make sure you drink and drink slow.I know if I feel hungry if I drink I don't want food any more. It's just a big adjustment at first. You will be fine sounds like your doing great.Best of luck to you..

I'm so glad to finally see your post. I have been checking and checking. Glad the surgery went well. They must have given you an extra dose to take that long to wake up. When did you come home? Were they able to do the surgery lap?
I can't help with the post-op hunger, since I am not there yet. 2 more days to go. Hope all the post-op's can answer that for you.
I'm just glad you are okay.
Bless you
Barb
Not sure what they gave me to make it so hard to wake up. I just had an open abdominal hysterectomy in March. I was much more awake during the recovery from that!
With this surgery I've been able to get up and move around easier than the others. I'm very thankful for that! I was discharged on Sunday. I rode down to Republic w/my in-laws and now staying w/my Mom (who's a nurse) till Sunday. I see Dr. Hornbostel next Tuesday. Spoke w/Margie today. She's so nice. I'd been having headaches and it seems that we think it may be from lack of caffeine. She told me to had some 1/2 and 1/2 coffee to my diet. I'm ususally not a coffee drinker, but... Sugar Free things used to really bother me. Since the surgery, NO problems! Thankfully! So... I know you're anxious about your surgery. I'm sure you'll do fine! Best wishes! ~Stacey
Glad to see that you are out and about.. Re your "hunger".. It could be head hunger and it could be thirst. Alot of the times we "feel" hungry we are actually thirsty. You might try upping your fluid intake to see if that helps...
...also think about it. After having surgery and being cleared to start eating what did we usually do? We started eating... something comforting usually since we were recuperating from surgery and felt kinda punky right? Well ... why is this no different from the past only that you have changed your lifestyle and can't revert back to old HABITS....
...thats right... HABITS... which would include a classic case of head hunger. Find something else to fill your time with.. that you usually devoted to eating... get a new hobby... pick up a book, pamper yourself with a manicure or pedicure... but do something NEW & EXCITING!!...
You are just starting on your journey my dear and I know that you are going to be fine! This is pretty exciting stuff!
Congrats and best wishes...
Elizabeth~
