Guess I am lucky
Hey everyone! Thanks for all the well wishes.
Last night my first night home I did great. I know that some of you who have had the surgery and had pain my think that I am , but I have not had any. Just a very little discomfort and that is mostly the gas rolling around in there looking for the opening
When I arrived back to my room Tuesday about 11:30am, I was hurting, but I had a problem with my IV, and the bed sucked. My IV infiltrated my skin and not my vein, so I never got any kinda of pain meds... I kept telling my nurse that something wasn't right, and of course what does a patient know?? Any who's I finally told them I was getting up, and I did. They thought I was just going to the door... I went to the nurses station and I felt so good just getting up, I took my stroll came back and sat in the chair... still not getting anywhere with the IV... but not any really major pain in my stomach but my hand was on fire and swelled...this went on till shift change, well my new nurse thought I was nuts and she re-set the IV machine, and that still didn't do any good, and she " didn't come down there, only the CTech, and she tried to get me help with my IV problem...Folks I went all night with my hand and arm on fire, swelling, and throbbing...I finally unhooked myself and went to find my nurse dragging my IV stand down the hall...she would not mess with me, she was too overwhelmed with her other patients... called a ER nurse up and he changed my IV to my right arm...guess what... It did the same thing my hand did, so the only pain meds I had were from the oral nasty stuff they gave me after I got a awesome new day nurse, which was only like 4 doses before I got discharged..But THANK GOD I WASN'T IN ANY PAIN WITH MY STOMACH...
I really do feel great.. and I have already had that first omg it will take forever BM...Yes I did... sorry if that is too much info but it did happen.
Well I have gabbed on enough so I will close for now.
Good luck to all the upcoming surgeries... Thanks you all for everything.!
WOW, I am so sorry you had this problem. My experience wasen't that bad but I was pretty bad. I had my surgery on a friday so I was there through the weekend. Colette, my friend *****sponded to your post, said that the weekend crew is never as good as the week crew. I was not happy with the care and I still need to write a letter to the hospital and let them know about it. You need to do the same! Glad you are feeling good. I had no problems either. Where was your surgery? The only thing I had a real problem was the head hunger. Since I am still addicted to food I wanted to eat. I was going through some sort of withdraw like a drug addict would need a hit. It was horrible! I am doing fine now since I am starting to loose some serious weight. I had my surgery Nov. 4 and I have lost as of today 33 pounds. I feel so much better already. You will be feeling that very soon. Well, have a blessed day. Penni
'Since I am still addicted to food I wanted to eat. I was going through some sort of withdraw like a drug addict would need a hit. It was horrible!'
FINALLY someone who felt the same as me after surgery. I was even crying and carrying on. All I wanted was FOOD!
I tried to discuss this at a post op meeting...
One pt told me at, "If you wanted to eat junkfood you shouldn't have had surgery!" I couldn't figure out how to explain to this lady (or *****) what I really felt, it was much deeper than loving the value of a meal supersized for only 29 cents!
I was so shocked! I mean it was a real physical pain and suffering the loss of food for me. LIKE A DRUG really, You nailed it!
Take care, Kristen
That is fantastic susan. i'm so glad that you breezed right thru it. i hope that i can do the same Monday Dec. 5th. that's when i have my surgery.
i hope and pray that i have no problems just like you on your first step of the journey.
Good luck to you with your new future and the best of holidays to you and your family. God bless.
Maria
Glad to hear you had little stomach pain....that IV thing is too bad. You can always ask for the number of the patient advocate. Most hospitals have one and they get things hopping....I was glad someone here addressed head hunger.....geez, I know it's there.
Susan, best of luck and let us know how it's going. I am awaiting my date.
