Hello, I had my first appointment with Dr. Rhamshaw last week. He is in the same office as Dr. Scott in Columbia. I felt very comfortable with him and think that he's the one who will do my surgery. I was wondering, though, if anyone else has been to him. If so, what was your experience? I looked for him in the list of surgeons on this site, but unfortunately he's not listed. I guess I'm just looking for someone who's worked with him and can tell me about the experience. Thanks in advance! Nettie

That's very interesting. I had an appointment with Dr. Rhamshaw at UMC Hospital to discuss having a hernia repair. I told him I had had gastric bypass surgery and he said nothing about doing those himself. Interesting! I liked him as a person but I was hoping he'd be more understanding of my desire to remove some excess skin in the process of fixing the hernia but he said they don't do that any more because they're doing the hernia repair laproscopically. Anyway, that's all I know of him.

Just wondering why you are not using the surgeons at St. Johns in Springfield? It would be much closer for you. That is who is doing my surgery next week. Barb

Thank you both for your replies. Teresa--He told me if I wanted to have a tummy tuck after surgery that they have some plastic surgeons that they'll refer you to. Hmmm...He also told me that he's done 400+ gastric bypass operations. It's strange that he didn't mention it. I think I'll ask for references (sp?) which I had planned to do anyway. Barb--As for a surgeon closer to home--oh how nice that would be. ;) But the surgeons in Springfield don't accept medicaid/medicare. I also have a lot of trouble with IBS and my GI specialist recommended going to Columbia. Do you go to the New Beginnings support group in Springfield? I've been once and really felt at home. Thanks again! Nettie
