Yahoo for your insurance! It took me a few years of changing insurances until I found one that would pay.
This is the best thing I've ever done and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Not to say there weren't hard times and some serious things to consider, but in all it has been a great experience for me! (my husband too, who had surgery two weeks after me).
Take care and like everyone said, ask all the questions you want! We'd be glad to help you out in any way!

Jan,
We're glad you were able to join us. The seminar is a first big step. My husband went with me, and it helped him to understand that I really did need the surgery. He was been a great support for me. If you can, you might want to take a family member with you to the seminar. It really helps them to get it.

Hey Jan,
You're close to me.
Can I ask who you're going to?
I'll be with Dr. Hohen in Shawnee Mission, KS.
I have another appointment with the Nutritionist before I can get everything sent in to my ins. But its so much closer now I can't wait.
Well glad to see a closer Missourian here too.
Best wishes,
jen
My surgery is next week. I have been working on this process for many, many months now. I would advice you to keep good records. I have been keeping a journal of every phone call, every form I filled out and every appointment I went to. In the beginning I started obtaining all my medical records and drafted a weight history/diary. All this information was very valuable for the insurance company, which approved me on the first try. I have been reading as many books as I can get my hands on. I attended seminars and support group meetings. But this web site is by far the best I have found. The people on here are great and the support is even better. Just don't give up.
Hope this helps.
Hi there Jan,
I had surgery Nov. 4 so I am new to the looser side. I am doing great! In almost 4 weeks I have lost 27 pounds. Now don't get me wrong this is a very serious thing to decide. I was really hard at first. I felt like I would never get to eat again and couldn't believe I did something so stupid. Now, I would do it all over. I am up to eating puree food so things are getting easier, now that I can eat real food. I would say that if you are really serious then go for it! This surgery will change your life forever. Congrats on your insurance. The seminar will get you started. Where do you live and who do you plan on doing your surgery. Good luck and we are behind you 100% Penni
