Has anyone used Missouri Voc Rehab to assist with surgery $$ ?

I was reading somewhere on this site about contacting the Voc Rehab for the state to see if they would assist with surgery expenses. This is especially if your weight is keeping you from being able to work. My husband really needs surgery and we are out of options to pay for it otherwise. It is getting harder and harder for him to do his work and/or to find jobs that he is able to do. Has anyone had any luck with this route in Missouri? What do I say when we contact them? Will all the big budget cuts make it harder to get approved? Any input would be appreciated. We are at our wits end to know what to do next. Thanks so much.

Welcome to the Missouri board! As for Voc Rehab... I adhere to the adage of "nothing ventured nothing gained"... you won't know til you go down to their office and make application for their services. Medical treatment is just one of the many different options that Voc Rehab has in helping folks. I don't want to be premature in saying that yes they WILL help... but if your husband is having a hard time in obtaining or retaining employment due to medical issues or other issues they would be the FIRST place that I would head.. I wish you nothing but the best...and please let us know what you find out! Elizabeth~

Voc rehab does not pay for wls. I have voc rehab right now assisting me with my school tuition, childcare, and transportation to school. I had asked my worker if they covered something like that and she said they do not. I believe she did say that they used to years ago, but do not cover it anymore. I know this is not what you wanted to hear, but I am just letting you know so you wont be as disappointed when you talk to them about it.

Thanks for the update on Voc Rehab. I wasn't sure if they still covered it or not.... ....If I were those folks I would still check them out and see what services they had to offer. It might help coordinate efforts to get their family situation back to a safer level of comfort.... What are you going to school for?? I, myself am thinking about going back to school and becoming recertified for my nursing. I have been looking into it in the last few days. It is pretty exciting stuff for sure!... Elizabeth~

I am just finishing up my pre-reqs for the nursing program. I should find out around the 1st week of January if I have been excepted in the program. Then I start the nursing program in March. I am really excited about it. I have been working on these pre-reqs for the last 2 1/2 years and little by little I am 3 weeks from being done with them. I will be very disappointed if I dont get in tho, so I worry about that all the time, but other than that I cant wait to get in and get my RN degree already lol
