Pre-op diet and vitamins
I am 12 days away from surgery and would like to know what you all suggest would be a good pre-op diet. My surgeon gave me a pre-op diet sheet and all it said was to do two liquid meals a day and one small meal a day until one week pre-op and then nothing but liquid. However, he did say I could eat Thanksgiving Day dinner and that was when he thought I would be having surgery on Dec. 1st. (schedule was full due to Thanksgiving). I have lost 20 pounds so far, so he didn't seem to worried about me loosing more weight, but I want to do what will be best for me.
Also would like to know what vitamins I should be taking now. I had a multi vitamin, but couldn't take it. They were just to big and couldn't swallow them.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Don't even bother with the big MVI (multivitamin). Take the kids ones. My husband at two years out still takes the kids gummy sour mvi's. (he jsut takes double the reccomended doseage for kids, and he doesn't take them every single day....)
Whatever it takes to get him to take them!
I take a prenatal vitamin. One I'm trying to get pregnant, and two, the dose is two a day and they are normal size little capsules, not the monsters like usual.
As for the pre-op diet, sounds like the doc has it all spelled out for you. Boy he's kinda strict! A whole week of two liquid meals and one small meal??? Holy cow. I can understand the two days of liquids..yippee. I remember thinking that was such torture. But in the end, it is SO WORTH IT!
Make sure you drink TONS of water and try to get in some protein so that you're a little ahead of the game. Also make sure you're taking vitamins now. With the drastic diet cutbacks, you'll need 'em!
a good snack is sugar free popsicles... liquid and sugar free all in one!
Take care and good luck with surgery!!
