If anyone reading this used St. John's in Springfield for their surgery, or used Dr. Edwards or Dr. Hodges please respond. I have completed all my pre-op requirements and I have also lost the required weight, including 3 extra pounds. I will be seeing Dr. Hodges one week from today for my second appointment and I should get my surgery date then. Please share your experiences of both the hospital and the doctors. Good and bad (if there is any). I am just starting to get a little scared and hope I have made the right decision to have this surgery. Any help I would appreciate.

I dont know if you know this but there is a support group that meets at St Johns Surgery Center 1229 E seminole classroom 4b Monday Nov 14th at 5:30. There will be a lot of people there who have had Dr. Edwards and Dr Hodges. It is a good support group for people in the Springfield area. Hope this helps Wayne

Hi Barbara, Wayne had a great suggestion (thanks Wayne!!) for you to go to the support group. Many people that attend are at various stages of the pre-operative and post-operative process. You'll be able to meet post-ops that have had surgery days/weeks ago and others that are many years post-op. Attending the support group to meet other bariatric patients, hearing the speaker (Mike Brown, President of the Healthy Weight Supermarket for the November meeting) and the open sharing portion of the meeting will give you lots of information and insight. From attending the various meetings, I can tell you that patients of Drs. Edwards and Hodges are very happy with them and have had great results after surgery. Both physicians have been speakers at the meetings and are extremely knowledgeable, and I've enjoyed their presentations. I lived elsewhere when I had my surgery, however, I would not hesitate to have my surgery with them if I had lived in Springfield. Being scared is normal. When I had my surgery, I went through a range of emotions. I was scared up until the time they took me into the OR. I'm four plus years post-op and I'd do it all over again every year if I had to in order to enjoy the life I have today. Hope to see you at the meeting.........Cathy
