Just coureous. I am just starting the process and am hoping for very little problem from them. I want to make sure I cover everything so that I don't get denied.

Hi Tammy, I had BC/BS of Missouri where I used to work. They had an airtight exclusion. I wrote letters, appeals, etc. and never could get them to pay for it. If you have an exclusion in your policy your best bet would be to see if you can get the employeer to lift it. I wish you the best. Marla

We have the exclusion and my husband's employer called them and said that they would lift it. But I am just afraid that something else may stop them from paying for it. Hoping to hear something positive about them but haven't yet. Seems to be kind of a waste of money that we pay to them. They don't seem to be very helpful. But I guess I will just have to see. Hoping to have lots of positive things to say about them myself.

Tammy, I am not too far away from you - in Concordia. I had Medicaire and B/cBS of Minnesota. They said they would pay if Medicaire paid. I was approved quickly but I have some morbities.Good luck and keep trying and soon you will be on the losing side. Colette

I don't know anything about the insurance you have out here, but I just want to say HANG IN THERE! It can be an emotionally exhausting battle, but WELL WORTH IT! Take care and know that you have a shoulder to lean on here when it gets tough, not to mention, people in your shoes who've been there! Stay strong! Kristen

BCBS paid for my surgery, but it is the Federal Employee Program. There are about 40 different divisions within BCBS and they all have different coverage. My benefit plan book stated "weight loss surgery is covered if you are at least 100 pounds overweight OR have 2 or more comorbidities." I had no problems with approval or with them paying for the surgery. Good luck with your journey! Angie 257/146
