Wayne, What is up~! Phew more men on the board so glad to see you. Actually, ty for responding and helping to make this board come to life. So, is the Dr saying you need to drop any prior to surgery? I have seen a few folks that have said the Dr said yes, some no.. me I was at 315 and the Dr said I was ok for surgery, howeverrrrr he wouldnt mind if I dropped any prior. I am guessing my hoping that you dont have a date yet? If not I will add you to the list of many that I am wishing and praying for a speedy letter of acceptance and a date for your new B-day. Looks like some great goals, and as I ahve said they all look good on paper. The key is how you feel~! Thanks again, Gevin RNY 06-01-05 Saved my life~! 314.5/201/146 ish

Gevin, Sounds like you are doing great!! That's wonderful. I had surgery on February 9, 2005 and my weight before surgery was 450, I am 6 1/2 months out and my weight 2 weeks ago was 340. I am happy with that, I just hope it keeps coming off. My goal is to be around between 180 and 190 and the dr. said for my height that would be fine. I need to go for now, take care and keep up the great work!! Darla D.

Dalrla, In a word Dang~! Thats a drop in weight~! I bet you feel so much better inside and out. I am doing pretty good and ty for asking.. I still cant eat alot of anything. I dabble with some almonds (natural ones), and lots of protein drinks etc. Speaking of that... I know this is gonna sound crazy, but I found a protein bar for women that is really good. It is a Luna bar, cranberry with oats I think.. Anyhoo, yes guys it is formulated for women, but check this out. It is lower in carbs, lower in sugars of all kinds, and higher in protein, and it is full of vitamins (what we all need) unlike the bars for guys that are full of sugars and things we dont need.... Look like you too have a good goal in sight and in mind. I am hoping that others both post-op and pre-op see things such as this and learn that a goal is a goal, however it needs to be yours. And it needs to be a goal that makes you healthy, notice I didnt say happy, because with health comes happiness.. Well ty for responding and helping me meet a goal of reaching as many people as I can and helping them with just a few simple words... Gevin

Hi Gavin I will play. My high weight five years ago was 350. As a diabetic pre op I got down to 308. I got down to 199 for a little while, but I have regained about 10 pounds. I may get back under 200, but it is not real important to me. I am much healthier and I can my qualify for a heart transplant which was my original goal. I know I am not exercising enough, but I have a bad heart and I am back to working and I just dont have enough energy to exercise much. I will exercise more this winter, when I am layed off from working. I cant push myself too much. I need to find an indoor pool, because swimming is really good exercise for me. I am six foot and a large frame so 210 is not too bad for an old wore out man like me.

David, Well for starters I dont think your worn out or old.. As for exercise, try to walk down the driveway a couple of times a day. I agree with limiting it at first. One suggestion.. Talk to your PCP about adding B-12 to your diet. Through a sublingual or a tablet. I have noticed a big improvement in my energy from taking it. But again ask the Doc first. As for the Heart Transplant.. Wow, I wish you the best of luck on that one. As for your weight, I also agree that being 6' and large boned (framed), your weight will be higher. Thanks for responding~! Gevin

Haven't been on in awhile and saw your question so thought I's answer it late...My highest weight was 430. I lost down to 330 and gained 60 lbs before trying to lose again. I lost about 10 lbs and so the day of my surgery I weighed in at 381. I have lost 140 lbs and weigh 241 now. My personal goal is 150 so I have another 89 lbs to go. I would be happy just getting under 200. Even though I'm at 241, I went to the store today and the size 18-20W tops were too big. 14-16W in most styles fit great. I decided to wait to buy anything to see where I wind up at. I'm a year post op and losing has been at a standstill for a month. I started back on water walking two months ago and for some reason the more I exercise the harder it is to lose. Maybe I'm gaining muscle? It does seem my clothes are being more loose but the scale is not moving. So, I'll just keep on doing what I'm doing and hope the scale will start moving soon.
