Hey all, I have a question for all of you Missouri teachers. Do any of you have Blue Cross Blue Shield (Alliance PPO) with the Missouri Educators Health Plan? If so, do they cover the surgery? Is there a process to get it covered? TY Kimberly Dawne

Hi Kimberly, My wife has that insurance and all I know is that they (Blue Cross) want you to be at least 100+ overweight, have alot of co-morbidities (Sleep apnea, hypertension, diabetes (or close to having) etc... Now, as far as this version from Blue Cross.... Well I dont know on that. I would call them or ask your hr dept, if you have one, or try the plan administrator. I know she has thought about it since I have had it, however she hasnt ask many questions. If you do ask and find some postive or negative info please pass it on here. I am sure their are others in the same boat that just havent ask.. Thanks and good luck I hope they say yes~! Gevin 314.5/214.5/146 RNY 06-01-05

I'm not sure what type of insurance these people have, but I know of AT LEAST two teachers (from different districts) who looked into surgery only to find that there was no way it was going to be covered. What I suggest you do is call your insurance company, give them your policy number, and have them look up the information for you. If it is NOT a covered benefit, as for a copy of that exclusion...sometimes the wording in it leaves room for loopholes. If is IS a covered benefit, ask for a copy of the requirements. Many times, the requirements are the same for both the insurance and the surgeon, and often, you will find that the surgeon needs all of the requirements completed before he will even see you. My best piece of advice is to NEVER accept anyone's word 100% without talking directly to the source of information! Pamela 352/238 on a good day/150
