I'm home after having my gall bladder removed
Hi all, just wanted to let you know that I got home this morning from being in the hospital overnight after having my gallbladder removed. I was suspose to be at the hospital at 9 am, (originally it was 9:30, but they moved up my surgery, or so I thought) so I got there by 9 am, got registered and had the lab work done and then went back to Outpatient surgery. They said that I could more then likely go home that evening, just depending on how I was doing. Well my surgery was scheduled for 11:30, before it was moved up, and well I didn't go into surgery till after 1 pm. Talk about a long morning. Well after surgery they took me up to my room and my dad came in with me and then I told him that he could go on home since all I was going to do for the most part was sleep for awhile and he had been sitting there with me since 9 that morning and I knew that he needed to go, he is not used to sitting that long. I was going to call home once I got released and someone was going to come and pick me up. So I got to rest. They came in every 15 minutes for a while checking my vitals then every 30 minutes then every hour. It didn't bother me that much, I would wake up as soon as they came into the room. Well then they brought my dinner, not a good thing, I chose this hospital to have my surgery cause I thought that since they used to do bariatric surgeries there in the past that they might know about my diet. I had already told them about 20 times that I am a bariatric patient so I was hoping that they had it noted in my chart. Well my dinner came and I asked the nurse what was on it, and she lifted it up and said on its looks really good, Salisbury steak, mashed potatoes, gravy, peas, jello with fruit, and 2% milk. I was just like great, now I have been here all day, haven't eaten anything since midnight and now I get food that I can't eat for dinner, the nurse looks at me and asked if there was a problem with the food, and I said yeah, they were suspose to have me on a bariatric diet.........so she was very appologtic, not that it was her fault, and so she took that tray away and went and got me another, I told her that I would just eat the mashed potatoes but she said that there was meat in the gravy. So then they bring me a plate with just mashed potatoes and a cup of suger free jello. Talk about dissappointing. The mashed potatoes I couldn't really eat cause they were so dried out, so I just ate the jello. Well then around 7 they asked if I wanted to go home that evening. I told her yeah, if everything was ok, I would. Well they checked my oxygen level, I had taken it off for awhile and the reading was down at 75, it is suspose to be above 90, so I decided to stay in case something happened and I lost more oxygen at home. Well they came back in and tested me a couple times throughout the night both with the oxygen on and with it off. Finally this morning I was able to keep it up so they released me about 8am. I am home now and feeling a little bit in pain, nothing like what everyone had told me before about. To me it just feels like I did about 1000 crunches with my stomach. Been sleeping alot off and on but I think that has alot to do with the anasteisia. But at least now I am on my way to recovery from this and hopefully back on track with no problems with my weight loss. The surgeon did take a look at my new stomach and intestines while he was in there and said that there was no signs of a hernia and they were looking really good, he did see some scar tissue but he cleaned that up.
Bless your heart girl! Did you have your gallbladder surgery done lap? I hope so, I had mine out years ago open and boy, that was a tough surgery!
I just had hernia surgery, and they did give me a bariatric diet - like a new postop!!!! I said, uh, I'm a year out - give me some real food please! LOL Nothing with sugar, but they gave me broth and SF jello! I can eat more than that! LOL
I'm with you - I never rest in the hospital, and only stay so they can keep an eye on me, not for the resting factor.
So I'm praying you're up and around soon!

Hey Theresa,
I am sooooo glad all went well for you, with the exception of dinner..It did sound good, but ya gotta LOL about all of the food they gave ya..
Just remeber to take it easy and no jogging or running for a few days LOL.
All in all it sounds like they took really good care of you and that is a good thing.
Did they say what was causing your O2 to be low? I am thinking its from being knocked out....
Well rest and relax and pop a message on here when ya feel up to it.
