Irritable Bowel Syndrome

I was wondering if anyone on here had IBS before surgery and if so how did RNY affect it? If you had IBS with diarrhea, did it make it worse? Do you have problems with dumping? I would appreciate your experiences! Thank you so much. Nettie

Hi Nettie I don't think I've "met" you before - welcome to the MO board! I had IBS with constipation before the surgery, and still have it now. My surgeon has me taking stool softeners daily for the rest of my life, and that is helping. So my problem isn't exactly like yours - but the WLS didn't seem to change much except I'm more prone to constipation now, as are most post-ops. Soooo, perhaps a little more constipating post-op effects will make your situation improve? Not sure. I don't full-blown dumping. I've never had a dumping episode where I actually had vomiting, diarrhea - only felt like I was going to. My dumping is usually sweats, shaking, feeling sick and like I was going to passout. Usually only lasts about 20-30 minutes. Traci 250/147/149
