Hello Everyone... I am 2 weeks post-op and I can start on soft foods tomorrow, however, I am confused.... I want to start on a scrambled egg (protein first) but how many times do I have to eat them a day. They said to eat three meals a day PLUS 6 ounces of protein three times a day PLUS water... I just need someone who can set a menu of some sort just so I can get an idea on when and how much I need to eat. PLEASE HELP!

Dr. Scott, Dr. De la Torre's partner, is my surgeon. The book I was given pre-op says to eat three meals a day and to have protein shakes in between. You should have been given contact information for a nutritionist before you had surgery. That person should be able to give you great advice. You should start out with 2 oz of protein per meal to see how you do. I would try starting with one scramble egg to see how that works. I also have been eating a lot of cottage cheese which I happen to like. The most important thing is to eat slowly and chew very well. I am almost one month post-op, and I made my first mistake today. I was in a hurry at work trying to get to a meeting on time. I was trying to eat 2 oz. of tuna before the meeting. I only ate about an ounce when I new things were going bad. I was eating too fast and not chewing enough. I had to leave the meeting to vomit. My staff knows about the surgery, so they were concerned about me. I was fine after that and managed to finish my lunch during the meeting. Take it easy and call Dr. De la Torre's office when you have questions. Linda

Hi Cristina, I had surgery on March 30th and still don't tolerate eggs well. Everyone's different though and it seems everyone has a problem food that they loved before and now can't tolerate. Every surgeon's advice is different too, so go with what you're being told by him. I had surgery in St. Louis, but I've since switched my care to the Lourdes Weight Loss Center and Dr. Argotte (lots of reasons but let's just say it's closer to home) ... and the difference in the two programs was startling. I know it seems overwhelming and foreign at first, but you'll be surprised how you'll settle into a more relaxed routine soon. Don't forget you can put some foods into the blender to soften them down for right now. I did that with my meats when I was at the soft-food stage. I was advised to use fat-free creamed soups with protein powder and meat blended in, and for a week or two initially these are even what I had for breakfast. Just take it slowly and add your foods one at a time so you'll know what's tolerable and what's not. Best wishes and it's nice to see someone here that's so close to home! Myra
