Need new followup surgeon

With Dr. Fabito retiring, I don't have a surgeon to see for my one year follow-up. I guess I'm just going to go to my PCP and if I have any problems then see what can be done. But I'd rather have someone on tap that already knows my case. I've been told Dr. Scott will not see any patients from other surgeons. Anyone know anyone who will?

Hi Teresa, Have you talked with Dr. Scott's office, I thought... Fabito, Scott, Richardson and a few other where at one time all working together. I would suggest you contact them and verify he wont see other surgeons patients. SherrieD 10.12.04 278/183/???

Hi, I know it's a bit far to drive, but I do know Dr. Hodges and Dr. Edwards of the St. John's Bariatric Program in Springfield does see other patients other than the ones they performed WLS on. You might want to check into that possibility... Ardie

Hey! Thanks Sherrie..... It's been a great success so far, but for the last week or so I have hit the "wall" just a couple of pounds and it's kinda frustrating.... Hopefully it'll start picking up again. Just got home and I gotta get my gym clothes on and hit it hard.... thanks for the compliment. You are doing so well yourself! Keep on doing it! Ardie

Hi Teresa, Dr. Fabito was my surgeon also ... he did my surgery in March before retiring in May. Best wishes on finding a new followup bariatric physician. I switched my care early on (about 18 days out) to the weight loss center in Paducah, KY and Dr. Alex Argotte. This was the best thing for me because 1) I was discharged post-op from St. Alexius unwell and unwilling to return to anywhere/anything/anyone that had associations with St. Alexius hospital and 2) Dr. Argotte is so much closer to me (I'm in SEMO and Dr. Argotte's office is only 60 miles away versus St. Louis, which is 150 miles away from where I live). If you lived in this area he's definitely who I'd be recommending to you as a great bariatric physician. I know Drs. Scott and Wagner were affiliated at one time with New Start in St. Louis but have since moved to Columbia and started a center. I've heard good things about these two surgeons (especially Dr. Wagner). Good luck with your search for a new dr. Myra

Wow, I read your profile and I see that you did have a few complications. At least it wasn't a knicked bowel or something like that. I enjoyed my stay at St. Alexius and had no complications. I thought Dr. Fabito was a great surgeon. I guess I'll just keep looking for a surgeon that will take me on followup. I'm almost 11 months out. I can't believe it's been almost a year. I've lost 132 lbs. I'd like to lose another 100 if I can. It's slow going. I know I'm going to have to get back in the swing of going to water aerobics. Everyone's schedule changed this summer and since we have two Department of mental Health clients who live with us in our home, I have to be sure and be here for them. I've decided, though, after school starts, I'm taking the one client with me to water aerobics. She needs it as bad if not worse than I do. I know the exercise really helps. I have to get back to it. I go to Dr. Alex Argotte now also he is a very good Dr. I think it was really bad of new start not to get us a new Dr. I tell you I am very glad Dr.Fabito did my surgery but I do not like New Start ... I am down 115 lbs now and feel great, best of luck to you in finding a new Dr. Shelly

Hi Shelly! I agree with you on both counts, Dr. Fabito is/was a good surgeon, but I never again want to step foot into New Start for alot of reasons. I wanted to update you on the information I gave you about the Paducah support group meetings. It's a great group, but has gotten so large they've decided, beginning October 4th, to split it into two groups: one group for pre-ops and -12 months post-op pts. and another group for +12 months post-op pts. They're still going to be on the 1st Tuesday of each month in the same place at Lourdes, but our group (-12 months post-ops) will meet at 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The +12 months group will meet immediately after that. They said they're doing this in order to be able to present information more appropriate to post-op status. The September meeting will still be at 7:00 p.m. Hope to see you there sometime, I'd love to meet you! Myra
