Melissa, I had my lap RNY done at the University of Missouri Hospital by Dr. Stephen Scott. He and Dr. de la Torre are partners and have patents on the equipment used in the surgery. The operate out of De Paul in St. Louis and UM Hospital in Columbia. I was the 3rd surgery of the day, and there were delays with an earlier surgery. I didn't get to my room until quite late on a Tuesday. I was scheduled to come home on Thursday, but I still had some abdominal pain that caused some concern. There wasn't anything wrong (I had already passed the leak tests), but I didn't ask for pain medicine often enough when they took me off the morphine button. Staying the extra night really did help me, and I am now glad I did it. Don't ask what I thought that day. Dr. Scott and Dr. De la Torre are nationally know and have written chapters in textbooks on Lap RNY. As someone else mentioned, you really want to decide the type of surgery you want to have and then find the best surgeon for that type of surgery. Good luck on your quest. There are patients reviews of the various surgeons here on the OH web site. You can find patient comments for three of them at http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/forums/?ID=TR-987119253. Linda

Thank you Linda! I've pretty much decided on the RNY and would hope to have it done LAP. I've also been considering both Dr. De La Torre and Dr. Scott. I didn't realize they also did surgery at Univ Hosp- that would be so much closer to home for me. Did you just request that it be done at Univ when you went for your consult? At this point I'm still completing paperwork-have the referral and TSH done, have a psych eval on 8/30. I'm still learning about everything and it's so overwhelming at times. Melissa

Melissa, I started out with their office in Columbia, since I live here. Did you get your paperwork from the St. Louis office? If you did, you might want to call them and ask about having your surgery at the University. All of the follow up would be here too. That means appointments after surgery at 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months and 1 year. Here is the link to the office in Columbia. http://www2.muhealth.org/obesesurgery/team.shtml. The address for their office has changed recently and is not updated on the web site yet. Again I wish you the best of luck with your surgery. Linda

Hi Melissa, I live in Springfield, MO and I went to St. Louis to have my surgery done. There are you a few Dr's here in Springfield doing RNY's but I knew of several friends that use NewStart. So I went through them, and Dr. Richardson was my surgeon, at the time that he did my surgery he had already preformed around 800 Lap RNY's and not lost a patient... to me that was good info the have. He is a great Dr and very helpful, nice, wont talk down to you and really cares about his patients!! (can you tell how much I love him...LOL) Best Wishes! I you have any other question you can e-mail me any time! SherrieD 10.12.04 278/183/???
