I am 9 days pre-op and I canceled,...yep I did, just like that Poof! I canceled because, I am going to change the type of surgery I'm going to have. My doctor didn't tell me that there was something called BPD, which I am going to Omaha to see Dr. Anthone on the 16th of August 7 days after I was suppose to of had RNY,........ I was so fortunate to have been found by Jeanie,... (I say that now but,... just to warn you Jeanie I will be cussing you, when I'm hurting,.....NOT)jk I have read all weekend long and thought and talked to anyone who listen,... and even a few that wouldn't but I talked anyway. I had cried and been binge eating knowing that I was doing something good for myself, but also knowing that there had to be a better way. And poof just like that there it was, I was up most of the night fretin about what I was going to do today and when I called the office of Dr. Anthone it just all fell together,...I asked a question or 2 and then I said I really feel I need to see him so there it all went and I am off to NE, its about 4-5 hours for me but I know this is the right thing to do,... no more tears I feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Well there are so many reason,... first is that it uses my pylorus, which thats a good thing,...you don't have the dumping syndrone,.. which is a good thing, no marginal ulcers,..... which is a good thing, 3-5 ounces of tummy for a more normal sized meal,... which is a good thing, no fluid restrictions with meals, no food restrictions at all, its kinda like the reg RNY you have to kinda see what you can tolarate, this was what my turning point was for me is that it is can be UNDONE! It has a 80% weight loss where RNY only had 50,... it has a 98% diebeties remission where RNY gives 78. This isn't just the Duedenal Switch it is the Gastric by-pass and the Switch together,... and I have found a doctor that was trained by Dr. Hess of Bowling Green that has over a 1000 WLS under his belt,... which he also did 2 years at John Hopkins,... there are even more reasons but these were the main ones for me,...And I live in Sedalia,... I have friends that have had the RNY and some are doing great and some aren't which you will have with either, because it is a major surgery. This is the website that I have been reading all weekend long I know I still have more to read. http://www.duodenalswitch.com/index.html I hope I wrote this well enough for you to understand,.. sometimes my mind works faster then my fingers!

Hello, Marylin! I think you will be impressed with Dr. Anthone. His office is incredibly good about communication if you are out of town. I had an infection after my hernia surgery, and he talked with my primary doctor about labs and meds. I've talked to his office about labs and meds. My hernia surgeon sent his report to Dr. A. So, there's no trouble at all - just like having him here in town. I've called several times just to ask things and they always check back in with me. You can leave a message 24/7. Oh, and your insurance won't be a problem at all. His office building is almost impossible to find, so give yourself an extra 5 minutes or so. "I can SEE it, but I can't GET to it!" I'll be there the same day as you, so that is The drive from St. Louis is a nice one. Everyone has to make their own decision about surgery, but in my heart I knew the DS was for me. My reasons are listed at the top of my profile. Jeanie, Registered Nurse Duodenal Switch (DS) 02/12/05 -93 big lubs 348/255/165

It was a wild morning for me I was in some corner of the hospital trying to get my phone work and when I called Dr. Anthone office it was awesome I asked her if I would have to wait for my insurance to reapprove me and she said no that when I told her I had Medicare and Medicaid that I would get a date for surgery as soon as one was available,.... they don't need approvel from either one of those and they take both which blew my mind,.... what little I have that is,...tehe. So maybe 6-8 weeks I should be able to have it done,...I hope less but I don't want to get my hopes up! And this will give me more time to boost my protein levels so maybe I won't lose my hair. I'm afraid it will come back in more gray then it is now,...hehehehe Marylin
