I am going to be self pay because my insurance STINKS. I haven't found any for under $15,000. Anyone in the midwest have a Doc they would recommend for a good price. Any help would be so great. I am looking into Mexico, but I have my doubts. Thanks so much. Jen

Be leary of the ones in Mexico..........I have heard some horror stories about there. Maybe talk to some of the surgeons around St Louis to see if they would be willing to work with you on payments. I know my lap was around $20,000 for everything.

Jen, I would recommend contacting Dr Augustin staff at Truman Medical Center in Kansas City, MO. TMC is the medicaid/medicare hospital in the Western Half of MO. It is now a very good institution. I am going in for an Open RNY on 07-19-05. You can see the info at: http://www.mylapsurgeon.com/staff.htm Gale Obermeyer Billing Specialist (816) 404-5348 [email protected] Gale is our staff in the billing and coding office. She facilitates insurance approval for weight loss surgeries then collects and sends the needed documentation to the insurance companies for pre authorization. Gale has also been very helpful in advising alternatives to patients whose insurance companies have refused to cover gastric bypass surgery. I hope this will really help you! GREAT LUCK to you. I fought with BCBS for 6 years before getting covered under Medicaid/Medicare .. Ken

Contact Dr.Wagner at 314-776-7112. He works with a company that has bank financing. This might be a good thing for you. Good luck in your endeavors.

I was self pay. My doctor charged $6000 and the hospital $16000. There were a few other costs, but my insurance picked up some of them like the pulmonologist and cardiologist. My doctor was Dr. Hoehn in Shawnee Mission, Kansas. A great guy.
