Thinking of moving to Missouri
Oh one more thing, what's the area they call "The Medical Mile"? We found a house or two near there that we like, but aren't sure if they are in a good area or not.
In my town, the houses by the hospital are old, but that's not a good thing. They are run down. Out there, the old hosues are historical and gorgeous!!
So, what's this "medical mile"?
Thanks in advance for your help! Kristen
"just give it a minute...it's bound to change."
Yes! I think that's hilarious! I saw some rain and said, "well, there's rain today." But by the time I got ready to go, it was hot and sunny outside! How crazy that the forecast can say 92 degrees with rain! That just NEVER happens out here! We get about 4-6 inches of rain here a year. So I'm used to the dry weather. But I guess you can adjust to anything. It's a trade off for me. A nice place to raise kids (one day) for the humidity! LOL
Take care, Kristen
Hi Kristin, I am from MO also, I live up close to St Louis though, but I have an aunt that lives about 30 miles south of Springfield, they have some beautiful scenery down around that area. Yeah, the weather is really bad in the summer, got to get used to humidity to make it through a Missouri summer, and well have you have learn to walk on snow in the winter time.........but I love it here in the Midwest.
As far as being foster parents, maybe you can talk to the company that you are going through out there and have them write you a letter of recomendation.........I know Missouri is always looking for good foster parents. My aunt was a foster parent and she was always trying to get people interested in it also cause they just don't have enough good people out there willing to help these children. Sometimes you can even get on the list for infants, just some of them parents are in jail and sometimes they are drug babies, but alot of times they just need a good family to give them a chance.
Keep us posted about the move, we are always looking to meet new people on here from our neck of the woods.
Theresa
I have my sister in law and her husband checking into the county fosterparenting situation out there for me. He happens to work with a guy who just became a foster parent. So I guess we'll be fine. We're so close to being licensed out here! Bummer huh!
Well we've been online all afternoon looking at houses and are thrilled and READY TO MOVE NOW! Gonna start to clean the heck outta this house. Paint the walls all back white and put in new carpet...heck, houses are selling around here with yucky carpet, no problem. Maybe I'll save the money and let them put in new carpet! WEEE!! I'm SO excited!
We're planning on taking a week trip out there around the 22nd to look at homes. I CANNOT beleive this is for real! YIPPEEEE!!
Thanks you for your warm welcome and hope to be your neighbor one of these days!

Kristen,
My husband & I both grew up in San Bernardino. All of our family lives there in the surrounding areas. The military brought us here. Anyway, people are much more friendly, living at a much slower pace. None of the rush, rush that goes on in California. We like it here and don't ever want to move back. The only probs that we've had is none of us had asthma or allergies before we lived here. Now the kids and the hubby has it. Humidity is pretty strong, but it beats the smog. Good luck to you in your decision.
THank you so much for your response. I'm scared we'll get out there and regret it, then never be able to afford to move back. BUT, 1-no one seems to want to move back and 2-we'll be able to put down a good amt of money on a house out there, so we could always sell and walk away with that same money IF we ever wanted to move back!
I'm sold!
I'm jsut scared to tell my family about it. They will surely try to talk me out of it. I can hear my Mom now "Kristen, that's a big decision to move so far away. I mean once you move there, you're there. Not like you can drive accross town to visit. You should think about this longer."
Then I can remind her of my conversation SEVEN years ago that went like this.
ME- "Mom, John and I are getting married in October."
MOM- "OCTOBER!? That's only six months away! You should seriously take some time and think about this longer. Are you sure you want to get married? That's a big commitment, you can just change your mind afterwards."
Two weeks later we drove to vegas and got married. Just celebrated our 7th anniversary last month!
What I plan on doing is making a list of pros and cons. I mean everythign I can think of. Down to NO Jack in the Boxes there, to being able to call my family on the west coast using my night time minutes while it's still early out west! There are so many things. I jsut have to cancel out the bad for the good. Like you say, humidity, but no smog! Here in Bakersifeld, our air is CRAP! We're in a valley, surrounded by mtns, with no ocean breeze, so all the dust and pesticides from cropdusters, etc just sit here. Ick!
We plan on making a trip out around the 22nd to look at houses. I need to learn as much as possible about the SPringfield area first. I'm pretty clueless. Would hate to buy a house there and LATER figure out we are in a crappy neighborhood.
We may sell here and rent there for a month or so to learn about the area first hand.
Are you in the Springfield area? If so, do you have any advice for us as far as location?
THanks a bunch, Kristen
Hey Kriten, the medical mile is near Cox hospital that is the south side of town and a good area, St. John's zip is 65807. That is the zip I am in also. I used to live on the North side of town in the county not in city limits and that is really nice there. The zip is 65803, we rented a nice house out there as well. Our rent for a 3bd/ 2bat tcar gar was 650.00 a month which wasn't bad, but my husband's job got downsized so we had to move to an apartment for now, but we are moving to a house again in about 5 months. Hope this helps and feel free to email me any time.
Thanks,
Carla
