Surgeon in Kansas City

I have a friend who lives in Kansas City who is looking for a surgeon. She is pretty new to the area, so if anyone can recommend someone, that would be great. Thanks!!!!

Hi Kristi--- I live just a little south of KC in Raymore. I began with a doctor that my PCP recommended and after the group meeting I knew he wasn't for me. (He didn't even show up for his own meeting!) Plus I had read really bad reports on the hospital. If your friend has access to Obesity Help, she can "go local" and search the surgeons in Missouri. That is what I did and I ended up choosing Stanley Hoehn, MD FACS. He works out of Shawnee Mission Medical Center. I have had an awesome experience with him and his staff and the hospital. (I just wi**** was all done, tho.) His complication rate is under one percent (in fact I think it's under a half of a percent) and he has had no deaths. (He goes thru all of that at his seminar and again when he meets with the patient). The only drawback that I think some people may find is that he doesn't take Medicare or Medicaid. Frankly, I have been very impressed with him and his staff. But I would advise your friend to research if she can, I'm sure there are great doctors here in KC. And I have read great reports about St. Lukes Hospital, too. Blessings, Peggy

Kristi...Dr. Hoehn and Hitch**** have wonderful reputations. My issue with them is they won't do the surgery if your BMI is in the high 50's. They wanted me to loose several pounds first. Well ya know how that goes.... So I am now trying to find someone in this area that performs for folks with high BMI's. I did find Dr. Wanda Kanawski and she is neat. However, she is not in my PPO! I may have to use her if I can't find someone that will do the surgery and take BCBS of Illinois. Best of Luck! Patricia

I am with Dr. Hoehn and he is fantastic! They are very through before surgery as well as after. They check you out very well before to make sure you will be ok going through surgery. I know no one can guarentee but they try to get as close as they can. They also have a great follow up program. They do not just do the surgery and leave you out there by yourself. I highly reccommend his office. Tara
