Recovering...Again

I had my 3rd surgery last week. The mesh in my hernia repair became infected, so they opened me up again and replaced the mesh. My wound is still open and I am connected to a wound vac. (Think Seal-a-Meal!) They say it will heal in about 6 weeks. Home health comes 3 times a week to change the set up. In the meantime, I am grounded and stuck at home. All this sucks big time, but I'm still happy that I had the original surgery. I've lost 75 lbs since February and feel pretty good ... other than the surgery stuff. Here's hoping I don't go completely bald from all the surgeries! Jeanie

Jeanie--- Yikes! I am so sorry to hear of all your troubles! But it is inspiring to see that you have such a positive attitude!! And congratulations on the weight loss...maybe one day the surgeries will just be a distant memory. Hang in there, Peggy

I'm not always positive. I had a few really bad days. Let's hope the distant memories arrive real soon! Jeanie

Hi Jeanie, Looks like we are in about the same boat. I had hernia repair surgery June 2, and was told today, that looks like i have infection. I have been in so much pain for days, and the pain meds aren't helping at all. I'd do this all over again, and have NO regrets whatsoever, but I sure am sick right now. Also, my dietician says I have to get in 82 grams of protein per day now, and I'm having a terrible unsuccessful time. For some reason, I can eat less now that the hernia's have been repaired, than I could when I first had WLS. I don't understand this. Take care, and God Bless you. Hope you are feeling much better very soon. Jenni 300/195/150 -105 lbs.

We had surgery on the same day. Be sure to keep in touch with your doc and stay on top of any infection. Did they insert mesh with your repair? I know how sickly it can make you feel. I went for almost a week without being able to eat anything and became dehydrated. Try to get that protein in with shakes or anything you can keep down. Here's to being healthy again! Jeanie

I highly recommend GNC liquid protein. It's 18 grams for 3 T. I put it in 24 oz of Crystal Light pink lemonade. Makes it taste a little different but not proteiny. There's no protein smell. You can do 6T at a time for 36 grams of protein in 24 oz of CL. Then, you could do another later and you'd get in 72 grams. If you purchase at least 6 bottles of the liquid protein and get the GNC gold card, you get 20% off for the gold card and 10% more off for buying in bulk for a 30% discout. I'm not sure how much it is per bottle, but it's cheaper than almost any other protein I've tried. And, I'm able to tolerate it, even look forward to drinking it every morning. Good luck.
