Hi! I have finally decided to have WLS and since I don't have medical insurance, I decided to go out of the country. After much research, I've settled on Dr. Marchesini in Brazil. Now, I need to find a psychologist for a consultation and a primary care physician for post-op (and general) care. My family doctor (since childhood) passed away and I never got another primary care doctor. When I needed a doctor, I went with a specialist for whatever the condition required. I have an obstetritan for pregnancy, a urologist for kidney stones, etc. Now that I need a PCP, I'm wondering if there will be a doctor willing to take on a new patient who is going overseas for bariatric surgery. Has anyone had a problem with this? Can anyone recommend an understanding doctor in the St. Louis, or Metro East (Illinois) area?

Try Dr. Lisa Ross (314-752-7100). She is my PCP and is very friendly to WLS. I am not sure if she is taking new patients, however. Also, regarding your psych. eval., you might try Dr. Dragan Svrakic. He was also open to WLS and my psych. eval. with him only took about 30 minutes. (314-362-3903) Dr. Svrakic's assistant is very nice also. If she knows the purpose for your visit, I am sure she will be even more accommodating than she already is. Good luck! - Beth
