surgeons
Hi Amanda,
Im very biased, BUT I had Dr. Scott out of Columbia and he is wonderful... Im 4 days post op and really dont have much "pain" more discomfort than pain... He is partners with Dr. De La Torre and he is based out of DePaul in St. Louis... they do surgery together so quite frankly you get 2 surgeons for the price of one! If I heard right they are like the 5th ranking team of Doc's that do this kind of surgery so they are both well qualified. I'd encourage you to check these docs out, and others so that you are well informed and that you are confident with any surgeon that you pick. Good luck in your search and in your weightloss journey....
Oh Yeah... just wanted to say that I walked almost a mile yesterday and had alot of fun... Im amazed at the quick recovery I try not to overdo it too much all at once but I have not had any trouble staying active!

Hi Amanda and congrats on wanting this sugery and wanting to find a good reputable surgeon to do this. I would HIGHLY recomend Dr. De La Torre, I had my surgery a week and half ago and I don't think that I can sing enough praise for him. He has alot of high marks in my books towards the gastric bypass surgery. Him and Dr Scott have patent many of the tools that they use for the surgery and now while Dr Scott works out of Columbia, Dr. De La Torre works out of Depaul Hospital in Bridgeton, they still work togather writing many new procedures and patent many techineques to this surgery. He has had a few of his surgeries televised to medical conferences and has many dr's, some even from other countries, come to St Louis to work with him to learn his te*****ues. When I met him during my Pre-Op class, he sat down with us and went over all the risks that are involved and then talks to you one on one to make sure that this is what you really want. My surgery was done and overwith in about an hour, he says that he don't want to take any longer then an hour doing a surgery cause then that makes it harder for the patient to recover. His assistant surgeon for mine was his other partner, Dr. Richardson, and he was very pleasant, I only met him once and that was right before surgery. Dr. De la Torre came in to see me right before surgery and explained the process to my mom so that she was at ease. On a scale from 1-10 for Dr De La Torre, I give him a 100. I had my first post op appt on Thursday and he was very pleasant and asked if there was any questions, and took my drain and staples out.
Not only was the surgeon awesome, but I must say my stay at Depaul Hopsital was fabalous, the nurses there in on the floor where they put the bariatric patients were just angels in my book. They were constinatly coming in checking on you if they knew you were awake, they always had big bright smiles and sometime even a joke or two, they were just awesome and made my recovery in the hospital terrific. If you are wanting to have the RNY done then Dr. De La Torre does keep you an extra day, but trust me, it is well worth it. I would recommend Dr De La Torre and DePaul Hospital to anyone that is wanting to consider this surgery. He is having a seminar at Depaul on June 22nd, I believe, if this is someone that you want to really consider, I can get you the information for it.

Amanda,
I went through the New Start program in St. Louis. I had Dr. Ivan Beretvas for my surgeon. I highly recommend him. 314-977-6125. I don't have New Starts phone number on me at the moment. I know you have to go through them.I am out 23 months. I started at 301 and my weight goes between 150 and 154. I had open. He does do the lap RNY also.He wasn't doing lap when I had my surgery done. I went to one of the seminars Dr. B. did for New Start. You can read that in my profile. Good luck to you. You won't believe how much life will change for you with the weight off. I have my life back again!!
