has anyone tried the sample packs from....
Hi Lesa,
I think the sample pack idea is a great one~! You get to try alot of different flavors and it will give you a chance to see how they taste ande feel when you drink them It will also give you a chance to learn how to mix them up well, thats is an art all in its self. Well I will be honest, being a man I have not had much time in the mixing dept other than concrete maybe LOL. So I have learned a few tricks with the mixing of the powders.
Here is what I have tried so far, please keep in mind I am still pre-op and am working my way to all liquids prior to surgery on 6-1. I love! the ISOPURE liquid from GNC. It has the best taste, and no chunks...
I also tried the NECTAR powder which is good, however I am not the greatest mixologist so I had a chunk or two. My suggestion is a good handheld electric mixer and let it do the work for you. Although a bottle mixer would get you some exercise by shaking it up.
I have also tried the Atkins low carb shakes, they are not bad, however again I am not living on the stuff yet...
My advice, go to Walmart, GNC, etc., and pick up a couple of the smallest size drinks, powders you can buy and try them out. If you don't like them now thats ok, you may after surgery. Plus you may find some you really love. Keep a journal of things you have tried and how they were (temp wise) when you tried them. I have found the protein drinks are great Ice cold, and I mean Ice cold, however, others like them room temp. The powders seem to mix well with skim milk and go down well provided they are mixed up well.
Ask your dietician if they have any samples for you also, or if anyone in support group has a sample or two laying around. It may have been a flavor, or brand they didnt care for.
Hope this helps, and I am in no way pushing one product over another this is purely my opinion.

I didn't try that particular bunch, but I have/had lots of samples from different places.
Keep in mind that your tastes may change drastically after surgery, and what tastes good now may make you post-op. I have an entire drawer full of protein bars that I can't even look at now. Before surgery, they were pretty good. I've read from lots of people that they were the same way.

Lesa,
One of the things you really want to think about after your surgery also is will you have the energy the shake the cup to drink your protein. Trust me, just coming out of surgery and getting home, that was the last thing on my mind. I did purchase an inexpensive hand held blender at Walmart before surgery for under $10.00 and it is really a lifesaver. But my biggest lifesaver is the Isopure from GNC, its does take a bit of getting used to, but once you get used to the taste it doesn't bother you.
