You do NOT want to get dehydrated... since you are so new out of the blocks you might want to experiment with changing the temp. of the water you are drinking... is it tap water? That sometimes causes issues with your new tummy... try bottled water... try warm tea (decaf. please!).... just experiment experiment experiment til you find something that the tummy likes... what works for some might not work for you! For me... I HAD to do the warm teas... I could not drink water right after surgery as it gave me a queasy feeling... now it wasn't bad enough that it threatened my water intake such as it is doing to you... but I didn't like the feeling it gave me so I experimented and found warm teas (decaf) did the trick for me..... also SF popsicles.... Please please make sure you are getting enough water in though...your body needs it to heal properly... and it speeds up the weight loss... weight is lost through cellular respiration ... kinda heady stuff... you literally breath it out and eliminate it out ... so get tha****er in! I had a problem drinking cold water, it has to be at room temperature. You may want to try drinking your bottled water at room temperature. I had to teach myself to sip by drinking from a teaspoon rather than straight from a glass, cup or bottle. Keep trying diffrent things until you find what works best for you. Pam Lap RNY 04/20/05

I'm having a lot of trouble with that, too. I'm averaging 30 oz liquid per day and about 20 grams of protein per day. It seems like I drink more water when I drink Propel, though. If it's to sweet for you, I've heard that some people mix it with a little bit of plain water. Protein: I didn't start Protein until I was 3 weeks out but they're all to sweet! I've spent almost $200 in different protein drinks at GNC, the grocery store, Walmart, and the internet. But, this morning I finally found one I can handle. Atkins Advantage. Are you drinking about 1 sip every 5 minutes? I know my doctor suggested it. Of course I'm also having trouble following that rule. Good luck to you! Nancy

I had a hard time also with fluids at first... What I've done is keep several bottles that have the fl. oz. on them and use them to make sure I get my numbers. So if you are pushing for the min of 64 oz. then use 3 24 oz bottles for a total of 72 oz, this way you can track the amount fast and easy. I too was not able to get down plain water... like the others have said try bottled water and I use Crystal Light. I mix it up then poor about 1/2 a bottle of CL and then fill it up the rest of the way w/tap water. (I still can't drink CL and stuff at full strength, so I water down everything) As for the protien, you might just try doing 2 oz at a time, then come back to it in 30 min or so, maybe even 1 oz at a time. I mix my protien w/skim milk but I've heard that most people have issues w/that at 1st, but I've been really lucky not to get sick from anything I've tried yet. Plus the skim milk helps w/the calcium you will want to get in, in the near future. I hope this will help you get both of these issue under control, I know it's very hard to put everything together at 1st, but it will get better. Oh, and my Dr. advised that early in the game fluids are more important than food, so if you have to push fluids and not eat to get back on track they would rather you do that... but like always be sure and check with your Dr. on if they would agree or disagree with not eating to make your fluids. Good Luck!! SherrieD 278/194/???
