I'm still pretty new at this and I haven't dumped at all. I can just tell you what I've learned so far from my doc and other people. Not everyone dumps. A lot of times people will dump because they ate stuff they weren't supposed to.

Sherry, I am 5 months post-op, and I do have dumping if I eat to quickly or if I don't pay attention to my stomach and eat several bites to many. However, if I eat just a bite or two of eggs of any kind by themselves, I have major dumping they just don't agree with me. I understand from others, that this does get better. I don't want to get to gross, but if your dumping is clear and slimy , its because you have eaten to quickly...this is what my physician told me. So hang in there... Julie

I still dump after almost two years. It can be on something that has been fine to eat before. I can dump on protein shakes. Everybody is different. Katie

Generally, dumping happens in about 33% of the people who have WLS (not the lapband, though). Dumping is a physiological response to too much sugar or fat being "dumped" into your intestines and bloodstrem, not from eating too much. Dumping is different for everyone...some people will dump on just a few grams of sugar, while others may be able to eat an entire candy bar before they get sick. The same goes for fat and grease. I know that some people suddenly discover that they dump two years after surgery, while others seem to quit dumping. I think that for the most part, your body will decide if and when and HOW you dump. I can handle sugar to a degree. The more concentrated it is (like in jelly), the less I can handle before I dump. For me, dumping comes on in stages. A LITTLE too much sugar, and I feel sluggish. A LOT too much sugar, and I feel like I have the flu...hot yet clammy, dizzy, heart races. I can also handle grease/fat to a degree. Most foods I can handle okay, as long as there isn't extra fat/grease added. I can eat fried chicken without feeling sick. However, if you give me a burger from a fast food place, I'm nauseous for hours. And if it's something EXCESSIVELY greasy, I get horrible abdominal cramps that feel like a miscarriage (not that I've ever had one of those, but the pain was so excruciating I thought I was going to die...literally!). I don't have problems with diahrea (sp?) or vomiting when I dump on either sugar or grease, although others may. For the record, at 10 months out, I still dump. I hope this answers your question. Sometimes I'm a little too thorough. I have too much time on my hands, I suppose... Pamela -101

I have a neighbor who is 4 or 5 years post-op and she still dumps. I do dump occasionally, and like others have posted, will sometimes dump on something that I didn't before. Traci -93
